Grrr.....I'm having one of those days LOOOONG vent

)So, I wasn't too thrilled with my prof. pictures. They aren't very creative (like the samples of her work were), there are a bunch missing, and the just didn't blow me away like I expected them to.

It turns out that there was a camera malfunction- hence the missing pictures. So, to compensate the owner game me a $300 credit and said I can use it towards more enlargements, an album upgrade, more pics in the album.

Fast forward to 6 months later, I get the call that my video is ready and that I have a $400 balance on it.

So I said 'I can use my $300 credit towards it, right?'

She says 'I'm pretty sure, but I have to check with owner.'

She called me back today and said NO. That photo/video are 2 totally different things. So, I said they are both from your company- what makes them so different? 2 different contracts, apparently.

So, I said I wanted to speak to the owner about it, when will he be back from vaycay. She says next week, but he'll be VERY busy and there's nothing more she can do.

I told her that I understand that there's nothing more SHE can do, that's why I will email/call owner when he returns.

3 minutes later Owner calls. Tells me that he has very detailed description of our previous convos and that he told me I can use it towards an album upgrade. He still has to pay his videographer and it's so different from the photog. blah blah blah

I don't even LIKE my pictures, why would I want more in my album?!?! The 40 I get pretty much covers the pictures I actually do like.

I finally said that there's no point arguing (I had figured I'd come on here and bash the company anyway )

I was sooo angry I was shaking. I hung up the phone w/out saying goodbye and started crying (at work...greaat.)

As I was logging on, he called back and said he'd let me use my credit towards the balance (how fabulous and kind of him ) and that they're a good company and he's not a bad guy and they did their best (didn't seem like it to me...I think she was half asleep all day- and their camera was faulty- that's not their best)

Whatever- I win this battle, BUT I'd rather have better pictures AND all the missing ones than save $300.

Vent over.

aww sorry you have to go through this. I know first hand how fustrating it is, I had an experience like this with one of my vendors. and it stinks!!

If it continues there is alway the BBB, vendors hate complaints on their record

Well I think its great you can apply the money as YOU see fit. Frankly, given that the equipment failure was THEIR issue, they should have compensated you wayyy MORE than that, but in any event...

Have you thought about getting some pics pulled from your video?? A friend of mine had that done because she hated her pics and to even make an album they had to create stills from her video. It worked out well, their video guy was REALLY talented at editing and did a top job. I'd say its not something everyone with a camera can do, but you never know, check it out! Otherwise bring the video to an expert and see what they'll charge you, it could be one way to get what you WANT and not pay more $$$ for 'lemonade' (i.e. when life hands you lemons)...

Man that stinks...sorry about your pics..as a business owner i always feel it's better to bite losing a few $$$ than having an unhappy client who will tell the world...sometimes it takes them awhile to see that...hope you love your video!! Can they take any screen shots as photos from that???

awww, i'm so sorry that u had to go through that!!
i had a similar situation where my videographer didnt show up till the start of the reception (missed the ceremony and cocktail hour). the day of, i didnt cry cuz i was just so happy to be getting married, but when i called him a week after the wedding, he said he would refund $375 (out of $1700) because it's technically 'only three hours of footage after i hung up with him, i was sooo angry that i cried also, and i am NOT a crier, so my dh was shocked and didnt even know how to handle it.
anyway, after a few threats, i ended up getting a much better refund, but now i will never have a professional video :(

so, i know it sux having to deal with stupid vendors who, once everything is done, don't seem to care less! i'm sorry u cried, but glad everything 'worked out'

Oh Keri I'm so sorry to hear you are not happy with your pictures This whole thing sounds shady...I would call back and say that you are very disappointed, and $300 is just not enough to make up for memories that cannot be recreated...would you consider having photos taken at your 1 year anniversary...perhaps you can ask the owner if they can not only apply $300 to your video but to shoot another session to create memories they missed.

Well, the thing is that I still have ALOT of pics- but there are important ones missing- She didn't take any of the entire bridal party with the kids, I have none of my ringbearers (I saw her take the pics but due to the 'camera malfunction' they weren't saved to the memory card or something, none of centerpieces, favors, the room set up with no one in it, none of the singer at cocktail hour, none of DH throwing the garter, none of me dancing with my mom, etc, etc.

AND he keeps insisting that he saw my pics and thinks they came out GREAT Of course he's not going to agree with me though.

In this day and age with digital cameras- there should be no excuse for people's faces to be covered in posed pictures. She can SEE the pic she just took!!! She couldn't have said 'Hey Liz, just move a little to the left so I can get your face...'

I should've given her a stack of must take pictures (I did give a list of all family members and important portraits I wanted- but other than that I trusted her creativity- especially since I was warned that she was VERY photojournalistic and would capture many details)

Sorry- too much venting again!

Thanks for the input though, girls! I wanted to make sure I didn't seem like one of those people trying to get stuff for free by complaining.

In no way are you venting too much nor do you come across as someone who is trying to get one over. You have ever right to voice your unhappiness and to be compensated for a job that was incomplete. They need to do more to rectify the situation then offer you a voucher with strings attached . Grrr I'm getting for you as I type this.

I'm sorry Keri!!! you so didn't deserve how they treated you!! I'm realllllly hoping your video will be completely awesome so they redeem themselves somewhat and give you some satisfaction!!

My in laws had a similar problem when they got married. Their video was ruined.

They won in small claims court. Covered the expense of videographer/photographer....

and they got their package.

Just an idea.
