Re: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO TERRI AND STEF

Our trip was great, thanks.

Friday we headed out to Montauk - we checked into our hotel (Montauk Manor), chilled out with a bottle of wine and sat on our patio watching the sun setting over the Sound :) Saturday morning we went to Gurney's spa, and had one of the best massages ever! It was a couple's massage, which we hadn't done before, and it was good. DH didn't think his was as good as mine, but he enjoyed it nonetheless!

Afterwards we walked around the spa area - it's ocean front property and had gorgeous views of the ocean. It had been rainy that morning so the ocean was really dark and mysterious! I felt bad - the resort area was setting up for a wedding, which normally would have been a beautiful location with the ocean and all, but everything was set up indoors because of the weather.

That evening we opened up a bottle of champagne (the same that we shared in our limo on our wedding day)

Sunday, we woke up, had mimosas (YUM) from what was left of the champagne, and took out the frozen wedding cake I had packed 1 year earlier! I then realized how revolting it was to eat year old cake, frozen or not LOL

Anyway, I defrosted it earlier and it looked delish considering!

So I ate a bite and spit it out! The buttercream was really slimy and the cake was obviously stale. The sugar flowers on top were still good, so I had a few of those.

Then we checked out and took 2 ferrys up to the North Fork. That was fun since it had been FOREVER since I was out in Shelter Island. Beautiful area. We had lunch in Greenport, bought a few things and then headed West to hit some Wineries. We stopped at 2, did some tastings at one and bought cracker/cheese sampler and wine at the other and relaxed on their property for a bit. We were lucky to have another gorgeous day for this.

We couldn't have too much wine since we were driving back, so we got back on the road and stopped at a pumpkin patch for candied applies, gourds and pumpkins :)

That was about it! Once I get my film developed from my reg. camera I'll post more

Re: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO TERRI AND STEF

Stef - It's a relatively small town - but really cute. There's a great restaurant there that my sister read about in Gourmet Magazine - The Frisky Oyster. It was rated 24 in Zagat's for food. It wasn't open for lunch though - that's when we were there. That was right on the main road (Route 25).

We stopped in a tea shoppe for lunch and I think you can walk along the water, and then there are a few shops to check out. That's all I really saw. We were anxious to head West and hit the wineries Are you planning to do this at all?

Erica - didn't it look good! It sure looked better than it tasted

Re: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO TERRI AND STEF

Thanks...will have to check out the frisky oyester (what a cute name).

I'd love to do at least one winery. Do you have any favorites? It so funny b/c whenever i think of wineries, I think of that photo of you in the sunflower patch that your friends took you to last year. Isnt that funny how that photo stuck in my mind so strongly??

Re: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO TERRI AND STEF

Stef - LOL That's so great! Ironically, the sunflower patch was at the ONE vineyard I'd tell you to avoid - Pindar. IMO it's really overrated, crowded and I don't care for their wine. When we were there last week we drove by and the sunflower patch was gone - it's probably just a summer thing since we were last there in July.

We like Osprey's Dominion best. The employees there were most friendly, helpful and it wasn't too crowded. Plus, there's a nice outdoor area to check out too. They also have this weird trick to keep flies away - which works! At other wineries, you're constantly swatting at flies.

What you should do even if you just go to one is buy/bring a picnic basket with some cheese, crackers, napkins, etc. If it's a nice day, you can taste wine indoors, choose a bottle and drink it outside

Try this site: North Fork Wineries

Re: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO TERRI AND STEF

Sounds like a great time, Teri! I've stayed at the Montauk Manor before too, nice place!

My favorite vineyard out east is Raphael... that was our first choice of where to get married, but it was too expensive! Soooo beautiful there.

Happy anniversary!
