I am
re-using plastic bags and using the canvas ones for my groceries.

I keep the window shades open for light instead of using electricity.

I am trying to do better,, and learn from all these shows lately. I have to admit in the past I really didnt pay attention.

We recycle weekly and I dont buy anything aerosol or foam. I try to keep as many lights off as possible and I dont like wasting water. I really could be doing more though.

I should do more. I reuse bags, TRY to remember to bring my canvas bags to the supermarket, and I recycle ...

Last week I went to a training from NYS for daycare and they had 2 drs there talking about how bad plastics are for you. I am seriously trying to give up unnecessary plastic use. I check all the plastic food containers, shampoo bottles, extra...if its bad number I won't buy it.

We recycle, I bring my own bags to the grocery store, and try to use energy (shut off lights).

Im trying to cut down on the amount of paper towels I use. Im really bad at just using them all the time!
Im trying to buy more earth friendly products. But it is hard cus DH and I also had to cut down on spending and most 'green' products cost more. Im walking to work in the mornings (dunno if thats more green than the subway though..) And am trying to be better about turing off the lights.

On the bottom of plastic bottles inside of a triangle a number appears. This number indicates the type of plastic it is and the chemicals used to make that plastic. Some plastics have already been linked to cancer in animals. Suffolk County just banned a chemical called BPA which is found in some plastics, (many times in baby bottles, pacifiers and sippy cups).

Here is sort of like a little rhythm they taught us to remember
5,4,1, 2 all the rest are bad for you.

NYS advised us to stay away from 3,7,9.

Another thing, they said was never freeze water bottles, or heat plastic in the microwave because the cold and heat release the chemicals into the food or liquids

Most water bottles are safe, some of the shampoo, cosmetics and stuff like that comes in unsafe plastics. I was shocked when I saw that plastic throw away cups were a naughty number 3.

Re: Happy Earth Day!

I use canvas bags instead of plastic , I open the blinds to let in natural light, I try to use a dish towel instead of a paper towel, but that's a tough habit to break.

We (DH & I) need to do so much more though
