Re: Happy Earth Day!

I sell people a lot of eco-friendly shiz.

I use a stainless steel water bottle for lunch at work.

Umm....that's it. I recycle our paper but haven't been doing glass and cans because we don't have access to the landlords bin while they're in FL and they won't pick them up in a bag. I try to shut the lights off when I'm done in a room, but it's hard to save water since I have to do dishes by hand.

Gosh, I'm so green it's a little nuts sometimes... I had a green wedding, but I guess that was last year, so it doesn't count!

I always bring my own bags to the store. I even give them to other people sometimes to encourage them to do the same!

I buy local food, produce, milk, and products whenever possible. That helps because it consumes less energy in shipping. I do a lot of green market and farmer's market shopping too.

I recycle to a little bit of a crazy degree. I'll open a bottle of tylenol and make sure to put the cardboard outer carton in the recycle bin!

I bring my own water to the gym in a BPA-free plastic reusable bottle. I actually drink tap water now that I've moved out of NY, but I wouldn't drink unfiltered tap water on LI.

I try to talk shorter showers when possible. Sometimes I indulge a little. I never run the dish washer or do laundry unless I can do a full load.

We keep the heat down in the winter and the air a little warmer and run ceiling fans in our home to help conserve energy.

I try to buy second-hand products if possible which is a little different way to be a little more earth friendly.

I'm concerned though because around here, so many of the houses and neighborhoods are super new. There are thousands of houses for sale and so many of them are on newly cleared land and that kills me. Even since I moved here 8 months ago, they have torn down so many trees to create new neighborhoods. I know DH wants to buy a home that's been around for at least 10 years (if not 20+) so hopefully we won't be contributing to the deforestation of the state. But we'll see how that goes. I hope we can find a way to be super eco-friendly in our new home, including solar panels and new efficient appliances and water heater.

I love Earth Day because I feel like it's one day a year I can share all my enthusiasm for doing my tiny little part for our world. Thanks for asking this!
