Don't do it. You're only going to hurt yourself if you don't have another job lined up.

this is what my DH is saying and we are having a disagreement about it

Why would you say that?? In my field, I will have a job in a week

Re: Has anybody ever...............

I have a house and a mortgage. I wouldn't quit without having a job lined up. Even if I could get a job within a week, I wouldn't because it doesn't look good on ur future employer. I would get that job before I then quit!

I've never quit a job on the spot. At one time i was in a job I hated, the owner was so nasty and the way he spoke to me one day upset me so much that I had to hide in the ladies room and cry. I considered walking out and leaving him to deal with that but then I remembered that I needed to pay rent, eat, put gas in my car and have going out money. I went to work everyday after that with a smile on my face and gave 100% but I also had sent out applications and had interviews set up. The smile on my face was because I knew one day I would have a job lined up and that nasty boss would eventually get what was coming to him.

A few months ago I heard from one of my friends that the nasty boss had to file bankruptcy he lost his house, his cars all the material things that he thought made him a man. Sometimes I feel bad for him but then I remember what nasty old ba*stard he is.

I think if you can have a job lined up within a week send out applications right now so you only have to suffer for 2 more weeks. If you walk out future interviewers will question why you left and it makes you look bad.

I have done that, but I was much younger when I did. What the other ladies are saying is true, however, I think in the scheme of things, it has probably happened a million times and if you're boss is being disrespectful/abusive and you are confident in the fact that you can get another job soon or you have some cash in savings, then do it. I doubt it will impact your ability to ever find work again and you can always explain yourself in an interview. Plus, it might do something for the ol' self esteem. I think sometimes women are too safe. We need to take risks!

What line of work are you in, by the way?

Re: Has anybody ever...............

Well, this is what it comes down to: I HATE every second of my day when I am at work. My boss became very rude/nasty/abusive, etc and the funny thing is that he is a young guy ( he is 2 y younger than my DH ) The situation is very complicated as every day brings new emotional stress to me, that I feel is becoming so crazy that I can not deal with it I feel that the only way to stand up for myself is to LEAVE. I do not see any other way Not paying attention and other BS does not work. I do not really care about financial consequences at this point, my DH makes enough & plus I feel that my health is at line

I am in Accounting/Financial Services/Venture Capital/Private Equity area

I quit my job 3 weeks before my wedding and the next day, when I woke up late, I was like DAMN THIS IS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!

PS.. I had a 2nd job, so I wasn't stressed about the money and the VERY next day, I landed my current job which I LOVE!!!!!!

Re: Has anybody ever...............

I remember quitting my job several years ago...i worked from home for a company i worked for in the city for several years...my boss called me with a rush job at like 7pm on my cellphone while i was out grocery shopping...and i lost it. (keep in mind i woud start work at 8am) My work was not very creative (i am a graphic artsist), they cut my pay after 9-11 and wouldn't give me what i used to make 3 years later, and my career was not advancing.

I called DH who was away at the time & told him i couldn't take it anymore, i hated my job and i wanted to quit. I was just crying and so aggrivated. So he said...'go ahead...i want you to be happy'. I handed in my resignation e-mail and 2 weeks notice the next day and never looked back. I have since started my own company which i am working on buidling....but i am sooo much happier every morning when i wake up! Of course when DH got laid off it wasn't a good thing with me not making much $...but if you can afford to...do it!

Re: Has anybody ever...............

girl you are right this is your health!! do you know what that kind of stress does to your body??
if you have enough to cover your bills and you wont be in total debt i say do it. especially if you can get a job lined up soon.

i resigned from a job i hated after a big blowout with administration; i gave my resignation the next day, with notice of course. then i joined a temp agency and have lived happily ever after since!

someone else mentioned going to work and smiling and giving 100% up until...i completely second that! have you ever heard the term 'kill em with kindness'? it infuriates people that you are in a good mood DESPITE all their efforts to ruin it! it shows that work is not your life and that you have a happy life despite the crap job/boss

Re: Has anybody ever...............

Awwww you girls are AWESOME

I am not sure if I can keep doing the 'smile' thing as my initial desire is to get his ears full ( which I usually do... in a nice & professional manner ) It is especailly hard in my situation where we sit VERY close to each other and ebery e-mail or IM I send, he sees and mentions to me that I am not concenrating, blah blah blah Unheard of

But I am feeling much better now, especially since my DH is kinda leaning towards giving me an 'OK, do it' answer. Not that I really need it, as I am independent woman, but I think it is nice to be on the same page with my DH and not to have those little misundestangins as we start our new life together

Re: Has anybody ever...............

olya im so sorry youre going through this stress...your situation sounds horrible and i honestly would just get so fed up and leave. Especially you mentioned that you wouldnt have any issues finding another job...then dont make a bad situation worse by staying in it. Start looking for something now and i am sure you will find something! feel better!
