has anyone gone throught this yet

my dad is selling our family home- he should be closing in feb. Im very sad by this. My mom passed away in april and obviously things havent been the same but our home holds so many memories for me esp. of th good times and the holidays and memories of my mom.

Has anyone going thru the selling of the family house- how did you react? I know its just a house but I feel its our house and I cant imagine having someone else living in it.

Re: has anyone gone throught this yet

my parents sold my childhood home last August...although it was a pain in the ass to pack them up, I was really getting annoyed....the last day, day before they closed, and we put the last stuff in storage...I walked out of the house....turned around and started to cry! it was VERY hard for me. This was the house that I wantd to bring my children too...to see thier grandparents and where 'Mommy' grew up!

fortunatly for us, it worked out GREAT. My parents are happier, and they are about 5 mins from my sister and BIL and thier only grandchild!!

Be strong! It will hurt but remember, its your family that makes a home, not some structure!!

This is so true!!!!!!

After my father passed away my mother moved out of the apartment we lived in (not a house, but it was where I grew up and lived for over 20 years). It was weird at first but now I don't even think about it.

Re: has anyone gone throught this yet

I can certainly understand how you feel I think i will feel the same way when my parents move. But do you mind if I give you the other side of the story? We bought our house from a widow who has owned the home for the past 30 years and raised her 4 children there. Being that she moved to S. Carolina, we dealt with the daughter. Well the daughter was so mad at the mother for selling the house, that she was a nightmare to deal with...she took it out on me and my hubby and was impossible to deal with. It got to the point where her own lawyer said 'ignore the daughter...she is just bitter.'

I felt so bad for her! It got to the point where I felt terrible about buying the house but we were already in contract. I promised her I would love the house as much as her and her family. Edited to say: I feel a little weirded out that I still see her drive by... It makes me feel like its not fully my house yet
