Has anyone had their cabinets refinished?

All this kitchen remodeling talk started me thinking about what I want to do with our kitchen next year. Our cabinets are fairly new, a very good quality solid oak (case and doors) with a natural finish. They are really nice but not what I would have choosen. I love the light maple with a satin finish. I think the existing cabinets could be sanded down and stained. Has anyone done this?

DH would kill me if he even knew I was thinking about this.

refinishing cabinets isnt that hard...from what I have heard. you just have to have patience. each door must be taken down, stripped then refinshed. YOu also need to room to spread them out to let them dry!

Ive heard the same as Lisa...not complicated but a real pain.

I just wanted to warn you about the satin finish stain on cabinets. I have cabinets with a satin finish and they are such a pain to clean. They show ever smudge and everything sticks to them.
