Have you become like an old married couple?

Have you become like an old married couple?

I recently realized that DH and I have become utterly lame. We haven't been out on a weekend night in ages. We are very content to have our azzes glued to the couch. There was a time when we went out at least once a week, to dinner and a movie, etc. On the one hand, we've been trying to save $$ but I think this is getting to be too much. I really want us to do more fun things now, while we aren't busy with kids.

I'm also suffering from Fourth Floor Syndrome- when I get to our apt. after walking up all those stairs, I do not want to leave again.

Same here ... although we go out to eat pretty often, but that makes it seem routine and dull too! I cannot remember the last movie we went to ... the second Austin Powers?

Seriously, we are anti-social homebodies. I don't even think our phone ever rings unless it's someone selling us something.

We are, too! We are very content to sit home and just spend time together...and I get kind if insulted when our single friends get mad and say we are 'old fogies'. I just don't think they understand that we are happy, and that we WANT to do this. They think it's because we don't care about them anymore, and that's not the case...

Tracy you totally described DH and I in a nutshell

Unless we are visiting family or have specific plans (like taking a day trip or vacation) we are not huge 'going out' types of people at all. When we were dating we did more, yet after awhile we realized we just enjoyed hanging at home, doing movies and dinner but that's about the extent of it

We're homebodies by nature, and I think part of it comes down to the fact that we feel SO burnt out by the time the weekend rolls around that all we want to do is hang out, watch TV, rent movies, surf the net, eat out (or order in) ...and yes we're also into saving $$ big time now, so that doesn't help

Sometimes we do think something is 'wrong' with us so in a strange way its good to know there are others like us out there!

And I totally agree with the part that we are going to miss 'our time' when we have kids, so I DO try to think to myself that now is the time to take advantage of our freedom ..

I fully admit we don't have enough 'outside interests' or 'hobbies' so that also doesn't help us with making any plans to scrape ourselves off the sofa

we were always an old married couple too. I'm not one for going out. I hate clubs and bars. Most of my hobbies are indoor hobbies so I like to stay in on the weekends. Especially inthe winter... I hate the cold so I'd rather hibernate and never leave the house unless I have to. Once it gets warm we'll do more things outdoors.

Tracy-- I have 'Third Floor syndrome'. It's a LONG way to the third floor too, so once I'm up there, I don't want to have to go back down. Once I'm in, I'm in for the night.

That could be us in a way too! I almost get mad when one of my single girlfriends calls me to go out. It's not that I don't want to see her - I really do. But she always wants to do these all day going out events on the weekend. I just don't have the energy for that anymore. Now if I didn't have to work it'd be a different story!

DH probably wouldn't care if he never left the house ever again He's perfectly happy parked in front of his computer.
I would like to go out with DH more often, but it's too much of a hassle trying to drag him out somewhere. And if the activity doesn't involve sports or video games, he gets bored

DH and I are definitely an old married couple. I guess both of us are sort of homebodies by nature, but it just feels like we really don't do stuff with friends enough.

Now compare us to DH's best friend and his wife-- the two of them are so involved in their jobs, their own friends and activities, that they actually have to schedule a 'date night' once a week where they promise to go out to dinner together. And they have no kids yet! As much as I get tired of sitting on the sofa, I don't think I'd ever want to be like this couple.

I think our age alone makes us an old married couple compared to most of the ages of the couples on these boards, but we just like staying home. We try to get out once in a while just to take a drive. I love that. Even our anniversary yesterday we were supposed to go out and eat, the weather was so crappy, we just got some Boston Market, and some movies, and had a great snuggly time at home. It was the best. As someone else posted, we are to burnt out from the week and just like the R&R time.

I am definitely a homebody, but DH likes going out every weekend to bars. We compromise, but it is definitely more my nature to stay in and watch movies and eat takeout!

oh, you are SO not alone!!! Craig and I have been together for over 7 years at this point, and we are totally an old married couple!!! We hardly ever go out just the two of us, occasionally will hang out with friends or have them come over - but in all honesty - we are really just lazy at heart, and nothing would please Craig more than sleeping in and watching TV/playing video games all weekend. I'm like this too, but I tend to get more wound up if it's just really been a while since we've done anything, so I usually get on his case about it I don't think we're really social at all, and our phone hardly rings either. I have friends and even my sister who are ALWAYS going somewhere, doing something with their DH and other friends - it kinda makes me feel like a loser that I prefer to just be home sometimes! I feel liek we're somehow expected to alwasy be doing something, and when you just want to relax at home, that you're looked at as boring or 'grumpy' as my sister has now started referring to Craig!! Oh well, maybe WE should all get together so we don't feel like such pariahs all the time!

Our friends have called us an old married couple since we started dating! We're very content to sit home and watch tv, movies, or play games. We go out with friends some weekends, but rarely go out just the two of us.

Helena this part of your post describes me and Brad to a T!!

Jax, this is why I adore LIW so much - nothing comforts me more than hearing about other DHs weekend habits and knowing I'm not alone!!! I get called the nag when I - god forbid - suggest we actually LEAVE the house on a nice day instead of sitting in the living room in PJs all morning

Re: Have you become like an old married couple?

I am actually the internet nut/game nut in the relationship!

I want to get more motivated to do things in part because we are moving away from most of our friends and staying in touch and spending time together will require more effort. I worry because we live close to them now but don't see them often. The fact that they all have kids is one factor, I guess. But still.

I'm in good company with all you ladies.

Let's see...we spent ALL of friday in our PJs and a good chunk of Saturday until we went out with friends. I like being lazy but I get annoyed at myself for just sitting online all day and watching TV!

Omg -- I am so happy to know that we are not alone!! We are definitely an old married couple already and it was that way well before the wedding too because of the money saving thing.

Sometimes I find myself really wishing we'd go out and do more 'stuff' but I know that we are perfectly happy spending an evening snuggled up on the sofa watching movies or playing on our computers.

I was actually going to post something similar. We go out together , to diner, soemtimes a movie, but I don't really like going out with other people anymore.

Totally but were kind of an old married couple before we were married.
I am very much a home body. I hate going out to bars and being in loud crowded places so our 'going out' involves hanging out at friends houses and having little dinners and get togethers.
But I'm happy so I don't mind
