Re: Have you ever had Falafel?
OK def bookmark this recipe...it its the best I hae ever had! It is alittle time consuming but the results are delicious! Also I like to make a double batch but I only have a small food processor so I have to do it in 2 segments:
1 cup dried chickpeas (soak in water overnight, see below) 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh cilantro (I used dried) 1 teaspoon salt 1/2-1 teaspoon dried hot red pepper 2-4 cloves of garlic 1 teaspoon cumin 1 teaspoon baking powder 4-6 tablespoons flour (can add some breadcrumb too) Soybean or vegetable oil for frying Serve size: 2 people...Its great in a salad or in a pita with tahini or yogurt sauce
1. Put the chickpeas in a large bowl and add enough cold water to cover them by at least 2 inches. Let soak overnight, then drain. Or use canned chickpeas, drained.
2. Place the drained, uncooked chickpeas and in the bowl of a food processor fitted with a steel blade. Add the parsley, cilantro, salt, hot pepper, garlic, and cumin. Process until blended but not pureed.
3. Sprinkle in the baking powder and 4 tablespoons of the flour, and pulse. You want to add enough bulgur or flour so that the dough forms a small ball and no longer sticks to your hands. Turn into a bowl and refrigerate, covered, for several hours (I did not refrigerate, just went right to next step)
4. Form the chickpea mixture into balls about the size of walnuts, or use a falafel scoop, available in Middle-Eastern markets.
5. Heat 2 inches of oil to 375 degrees in a deep pot or wok and fry 1 ball to test. If it falls apart, add a little flour. Then fry about 6 balls at once for a few minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. ENJOY!

Re: Have you ever had Falafel?
yes. I LOVE it. it's not that healthy if it's fried, and the baked one isn't that good, but it's just so delicious.
mamoun's falafel on mcdougal is the bomb, and like $3

Re: Have you ever had Falafel?
We tried the falafel in the Middle Eastern dinner that they sell at Trader Joe's.....we weren't too crazy about it - it was the first time we ever had falafel. But we were watching a Food Network show about falafel and we were drooling, it looked so good! We were disappointed.
I'll have to try your recipe! Thanks for posting!!

Re: Have you ever had Falafel?
I think I saw a woman on the food network making these a while ago. Either she put mint into them, or I remember seeing a recipe with mint in the falafel, but either way it looks so yummy. I have never had it and I would love to try it.
