How true to the paint chip was the color on the walls? How was the coverage?
Ive found a beautiful deep red that I would like to use on an accent wall but since Ive never used Ralph Lauren paint, I'd like to hear what everyone's experiences have been.
Thanks!

I just saw some beautiful Ralph Lauren paints but I have never used them. Did you ask Kelly? She might know.

I heard that there coverage is not so great (from a guy at Home Depot - I have not used them myself). I would recommend Benjamin Moore paints.

Re: Have you used Ralph Lauren paint?
my Fi's cousin used R.L paint and hates it. Its not true to the shade and it was a pain to put on. It seemed like it needed many coats.
She really didnt like it at all

I don't think it's good either. Some of the textures are very inconsistent. I have purchased Home depot paints, but after the red we got from there I would never do it again. It took a serious 5 coats with primer. Sherman Williams or Dutch boy are probably your best bet. They make a 'restoration' line that has lots of jewel tones, I don't remeber what it's called.

I forgot who it was that told me once 'never buy pizza in a deli' The product is best when made by 'the experts'. I would go to good ol Benjamin Moore or Behr.
There are so many manufacturers putting their name on anything and everything. They should stick to what they do best and not try to get a piece of every market...

Thanks everyone - back to Square One.
We used Behr to paint the house and we hated it...it was not at all the color on the chip so that is out. Home Depot is the only store I know of that sells paint - and they only sell Behr and RL...so the search continues!

Re: Have you used Ralph Lauren paint?
Stef - we are in Queens and went to the neighborhood hardware store for our paint. Try a local hardware store - b/c they are small they usually give you the attention you need when picking out paints. If you are not sure of how the color will look, buy only a small sample before placing your order.
I'd recommend a few hardware stores for you but unfortunately they are in Queens.

Re: Have you used Ralph Lauren paint?
Thanks Margaret...I actually went to my local store FIRST because I like to support smaller businesses (in particular since they must have been hard hit after Home Depot opened up a few years ago)...both of these stores had a) paint clerks that barely spoke english b)a very limited selections when it came to non white colors c) nearly empty paint chip displays and d) (most importantly) treated me like I was an idiot - maybe because I have a ******, they think I can tell the difference between flat and semi-gloss!
I know this is beyond the point of my post but I cant tell you how much it annoys me when I get treated like Im retarded because Im a female in a hardware store!! Grrrr....

Re: Have you used Ralph Lauren paint?
My sister used RL once. It came out horrible! My cousin has used it as well and was very disappointed.
We've been using Benjamin Moore (from Aboffs) for our home. I recommend their paints to everyone! You may also want to think about a tinted primer if you're going with a dark/deep color.

Re: Have you used Ralph Lauren paint?
I've had great success with Sherman Williams. The paint matches the chips and the paint quality is fabulous...easy to apply.
They have a one coat brand...which I found I needed to use 2 coats for my dark colors...
They are a little more expensive than Lowes or HD, but definately worth it.
They have some of their color palettes on their web site (but there are more in the store)
Stef! Do not use Behr's paint from Home Depot - it's horrible! Terrible coverage - steer clear! (Just a little friendly advice).
We tried Benjamin Moore paints in just the past few weeks. We purchased the paint at Aboff's. I found that the paint chip were NOT true to the color on the wall, once the paint dries. You might remember my post from a couple weeks ago - my 'light mocha' color came out looking PINK! Yuk!
HOWEVER, we just had a *widely successful* day today with SHERWIN WILLIAMS paint. The chips are VERY true to the color of the paint, once it's dry on the wall. *Remember - the color always dries darker than in appears in the can!*
FYI - You can search for a retailer near you on Sherwin Williams' website. Sherwin Williams also makes the Martha Stewart line of colors that someone else mentioned.

Re: Have you used Ralph Lauren paint?
Claud2001, did you do a tinted primer? How many coats did you do?
We've done 3 rooms and so far they've matched exactly. (I have to keep getting new paint chips b/c family and friends keep leaving with them!)
We had to do 3 coats with the dining room. That was before we knew about tinted primers. Our other rooms were done with a tinted primer. That made all the difference. I don't have a pic of the 2nd guestroom, but the color is a light sage green and we used a tinted primer with that as well.

Re: Have you used Ralph Lauren paint?
I LOVE Martha Stewart colors, but I think the quality is not so great.
I HIGHLY recommend BENJAMIN MOORE!!!!!!
My brother's friend is a painter for a livning, and that is all he uses. We did a color just like Jenny did, and we only needed one coat, we still did 2 coats.

Re: Have you used Ralph Lauren paint?
I have used RL paint. I have also used Benjamin Moore. I would recommend BM over RL for regular flat finishes.
The RL paint will need two coats, just like all other paints. IMO - its more the name and maybe the selection of colors that makes it popular.
I did the suede finish on one wall. One gallon barely covered a 18 foot long 8 foot high wall. Its very tedious applying it - but the finish is so textured and I always get compliments. They say you need their roller to do it, but I used a regular roller with (I think) an 3/8 inch nap (a noce loose one) and I was fine.
Edited to say - I think Sears carries BM

Re: Have you used Ralph Lauren paint?
Jenny, what brand and color is that first room you posted, that red? Your rooms look beautiful!
My parents used Sears paint in their den and it came out beautiful, don't know 'great' the paint is but I know it came out and applied very well.
