health question.. anyone know??

okay so I totally hate going to the Dr. more cause I don't want to complain... but I've been having this chest pain in the center of my chest for 3 weeks now. At first I thought maybe its just really bad boob pain... but I've never felt it like this.. I also get it when I take a deep breath. I don't think its a muscle because I could be laying completely still for hours in bed watching TV and it just comes on. Its not sharp, but it hurts pretty bad. It also doesn't take my breath away. It feels like the bones in my chest hurt in that one area, if that makes sense. DH said its probally nothing, and I that's what I'm thinking, but anyone else ever feel this? Should I call the DR. I mean I'm otherwise healthy and 26, I hate to call and say I'm having chest pains....

I also have a small cold for the last month, but (sorry this is kinda gross) the snots are not coming out of my nose, but instead just dripping down my throat... maybe the cold is sitting in my chest now?? I can't get anything out of my nose except in the morning... maybe this isn't even related.

Sorry so long.. anyone know anything about this?? should I call the Dr., or its probally nothing right?

I would def go to the doc. It could be nothing but better to know. A doc should never treat you as if you are complaing.....I hope you feel better and that everything is ok

Make sure you go to the MD's so you can get a check up & Chest Xray.

It could be that the cold has moved into your chest, but it is always better to be safe than sorry. I would definetly make an appointment with the doctor. Please keep us updated and I hope that you feel better.

thanks girls.. I just hate to go to the Dr. and waste his time, and then they say its nothing.. my MIL wants me to go, but i just want to make sure i'm not being a baby about it I guess I will call tomorrow

Pls. you are not wasting any Dr.'s time.
You are Paying for the visit.
So you should Not feel bad.
You should get checked out.
It's your chest area.
Where you shouldn't get any pains.

Okay....I got this when we moved to Georgia. At first it felt like bad heart burn. Then it was just this bad pain when I would breathe in, swallow, etc. It was in the center of my chest.

I have no idea what it is, but it went away on its own after a few weeks. My guess is either it was really bad gas pains (which CAN last for weeks) or the start of acid reflux. But either way, its a good idea to go to the doctor.

Hmmm.....
I think it's probably nothing.
You are too young to have coronary disease.
You are not too young to have musculoskeletal pain
(maybe from too much sniffling).
I'm not saying they're def. not anything wrong...if you are concerned see your doc....but I'm saying def don't worry too much

I had something similar a while ago but it only lasted about a week. Terrible upper chest pains which I now think was chest congestion, because I had lots of mucus too. I didn't go to the doctor because it went away on its own pretty fast.
For your situation with it lasting as long as it has, I definitely think you need to see the doctor. They can do a chest x ray & figure out what exactly is going on.

i have the same pains you are describing, in fact, you described it better than i could have!

first, i DEFINITELY think you should go to the dr. it's better to rule everything out than to worry about it.

my dr. told me i had something called costochronditis, which is basically inflamation of the cartilage in your chest, but b/c i'm a skeptic, i also went to the cardiologist to get my heart checked out. luckily, everything was ok, so i guess it's really the costochronditis and some acid reflux. when it first starting happening, i was so worried about it all the time so i think getting it checked out will definitely make you feel at ease.

oooohhhh.....

And take ibuprofen. Up to 800 mg a dose (but if you are a small thing...it may make you pee blood)....so try 400.

Trust me

Unless, of course, you are a smoker (stop smoking...it is the WORST habit EVER for health) or have a history of hypercholesterolemia....

Yep! I've got it too! My dr basically said just take slow deep breaths when it happens and if necessary take some otc pain meds, specifically anti-inflamatories. I have found with good hydration and not too much bad food that would give me heart burn, it stays away. but sometimes, it takes all I have not to moan out in pain. I'm sorry you are experiencing it! it's NOT fun! definitely go to the dr though and get checked out. you can't fool around when you have chest pains of any kind.

Hopefully its nothing, I'm actually having it right now

I tried calling the Dr. but they don't open till 10 so I will be calling right away.. My Dr. always freaks out whenever I call cause I never go, so I hope he doesn't make a huge deal out of it, like I have to come over right away, I hope I can just make an appointment. I'll keep everyone posted. I hope its just what you girls said above, and no big deal!!!

Heather, sorry you're not feeling well. Definitely get it checked out. It's probably nothing but you don't want to fool around when it comes to your health.

And holy cow, I can't believe how many of us have costochondritis!! I have had it now for the past three weeks-driving me insane.

I've had chest pain for both stress and sickness. Its best to see a doctor to make sure its nothing serious. Better safe than sorry.

Try a walk in. I go to one in Ronkonkoma all the time. They're great. Your health should come first. Go see if you can see the doctor today.
