Heartburn... PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

in an earlier post i saw a few girls complaining about heart burn. Girls i know this is something very common and we all know certain foods can aggrivate ur tummy so if you eat those food and u get heartburn then no worries...
BUT
If it is something constant for you and it is something that occurs on a daily basis pleeeeeeeeease get urself checked out. Go to a gasto. and tell him ur symptoms.

My hubby has been having heartburn issues for a while and i finally made him go to the doc. I thought that it was a terrible sign when he would wake up inthe middle of the night (numerous times) to take tums or something to sooth his burning. So the results of his endoscopy were nto that great. His stomach is fine but his esophagus is not so great. he has about 15 ulcers around his esoph. Now he is a strict diet and meds and we have to go back in 6 months to see if it has improved at all. My poor hubby is ok physically but his mood has been very blah since Sat. I mean it just takes getting used to but it still stinks that his esoph. looks like it went to war and back and that it can only get worse if he is not careful.

Anyhoo.. i just wanted to give u girls a headsup if it is something that u suffer from.
Also although tums are considered harmless taking them in excess can be bad for u..... somethign about the calcium and stuff.( the doc said this not me)

Your poor DH! Those ulcers can go away with medicine and diet so hopefully he will feel better soon. Did they put him on some kind of prescription meds?

Thanks for posting this

So sorry to hear about his troubles!! Thank you for posting this though. I hadn't even thought about the possibility of esophagus problems with heartburn.

Hey Date Twin!

So sorry to hear your hubby has been struggling with this ... it is NOT fun!

I'm currently taking Prilosec 14, it has worked miracles for me!

Hope this works for him and he doesn't need anything stronger

I hope he gets better quickly! I used to suffer from constant acid reflux and it was sooooo bad, so I can imagine how he feels!

My dad had the same thing. The pills really work. He was on a strict diet at first but little by little he was able to eat some of his favorite things again. I hope your husband feels better.

.this is AWESOME that u posted this.....i had acid reflux for a while & now it's finally undercontrol...and i'm now off my meds too. BUT just to really get u guys serious - if it goes untreated for a long time, the ulcers in the esophagous can actually turn into a really rare form of throat cancer. SO GET UR BOOTIES & UR HUBBIES TO THE DOCTOR! i'm not trying to freak anyone out, it's just important to treat....and it's so SIMPLE to treat & get under control.

i'm sorry about ur hubby BUT i'm glad u guys got him checked out...it'll be under control & healed up before u know it. a GREAT tip....get pure aloe(the gel not the juice) from the healthfood/natural store...it's proven to heal up the ulcers and it worked for me! U just take a heaping teaspoon & disolve it a glass of water 2x a day. hugs again

Yes we went to a gastro and I insisted on him getting an endoscopy cuz its just not normal the amount of heartburn this poor boy gets. he ate a bagel one day and he was suffering and I thought to myself its just bread why is it bothering him..ya know?!
Anyhoo pleae dont let this go cuz the doc told us that if we watied any longer it could have been much more extreme. i dont even wanna think about that.

It can turn into esophageical cancer too, which is why chronic heartburn has to be treated. I've got mine under control, but take a zantac now and then when I do get heartburn, or if I anticipate eating a meal that will trigger it.
My grandmother had esophageical cancer. Don't know if it a hereditary type thing.

Re: Heartburn... PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

One of the types of esoph. cancer is due to chronic inflammation due to chronic acid irritation. It' pretty bad because by the time it's caught it's spread.

My hubby is on 2 meds (and a third when he's stressed) for horrific ulcers. He's allergic to prilosec.

Good luck to yours.

wow!! good thing you made him go get checked!! guys always want to push things off when it comes to doctor visits!! When I was 19 I had a routine exam and my doctor tested my blood for all different things, and it came back that I had helicobacter pylori (h-pylori as they refer to it). If untreated, I would've had an ulcer. I had to take biaxin & prilosec for a month, it wasn't fun, but at least I was cleared of it. at least now your DH is on the road to recovery!!

Is this on the same lines as Acid Refux Disease?

acid reflux plays a HUGE factor in esophagus(sp?) ulcers which can lead to cancer...treating it is so important!
