When you 'preserve' a dress..what exactly do they do? I got it cleaned and I thought preserved at my local cleaners..but its not in an air tight box? Is it supposed to be? what does it look like?

Re: HELP!!!
I've read that the dress should not be kept in air tight plastic, but should be in a box and that you should remove the dress periodically and refold it before putting it back in the box so it doesn't get permanent creases.

Re: HELP!!!
I personally think the whole thing is a scam Had mine done a disaster all the way! Dresses are not meant to hold up for a second time through a dry clean. The stitching falls apart. Most of you don't know this bc you never put it on again for another event nor would you take it out of it's 'air tight' box.
I have offered this advise in the past, those have not had their dress cleaned - Don't do the preservation. Have your trusted local dry cleaner spot clean only.
Most of the beads do not hold up or wonderful lace and details and even the dress can shrink when preserved.
GL All.
Krisitin - For Sh!ts and giggles you should try yours back on see if the dress is o.k since yours is not in a air tight box. Why not?? Curious.

Re: HELP!!!
Don't worry, your dress is fine the way it is. Your preserved dress is NOT supposed to be in an air tight box. That is the biggest misconception. Your dress has to be able to breath. http://www.ehow.com/how_3971_preserve-wedding-dress.html I had my gown preserved at the local cleaners and it looks like this. This is the same place that preserved my MIL's gown 40 years ago. Her dress is NOT in an air tight box and it still looks great today. If my dress last for 40 years, I'll be happy. It comes in 2 boxes. The inner box has a window with a flap, kinda like a door so you can see and inspect your dress.
