Help for a Technologically CHALLENGED person with a Blackberry...
I have Verizon...i want to stick with them for a few reasons... BUT I have a regular phone...no internet, just speaker, bluetooth and a camera...that's it.
I now take the LIRR to work and am bored on the train (I can't really read, i get motions sick)...so i was hoping to get a blackberry or similar device where I could get and send emails, go on facebook and LIW and whatever else I think of.
Anyone have any suggestions on which to get?
Storm? Pearl? or whatever else is out there that I don't know about. lol
Thanks much!

i wouldn't get the storm but that's b/c i'm not a touch screen fan. I have the world edition bberry and i love it. I hear the pearl is good too, but that was too small for me.

thanks. I was wondering if the clicking would annoy me on the touch screen
On the blackberry world, you can get online onto any site like LIW, facebook etc.?

I have the Curve and it is by far the best phone i have ever had. I can get onto LIW and FB in fact they have a FB application. My SIL has the pearl. She loves it. It's a little too small for me.

Andrea, are you sure that you'll be able to use the BB on the train? I get motion sickness and while I can read on a train with no issues, reading in the car - or using my blackberry - makes me feel very very sick. Just something to think about.
Have you tried reading on the train??
I have a BB from work and it's at & t so I can't recommend one, sorry - it's just a numbered model anyhow and it's huge

I couldn't agree with this more! I also have the BB Curve and I LOVE IT! Best phone I've ever had. I prefer not to have a touch screen, which is one reason I wouldn't personally get the storm. And the Pearl was just too small for me. I like having the full QWERTY keyboard. If you do get the Curve, or even the pearl, be sure to download 'Opera' and use that as your web browser rather than whatever their normal web browser is. It's free to download and soooo much easier to use.

Nope. iPhone is just AT&T.
I had a regular 8700c (before Tuesday when I got the iPhone) and was looking to get the Curve but I think the Storm is so much better and makes surfing the net so much easier.

Thanks Jenn...I'm only on the train for 30 minutes while it's moving, but it's the waiting before and while I'm waiting at Jamaica when I'm really bored. I did try reading on the train twice...once it wasn't bad but the train was going super slow and it's a double decker, they aren't as rocky I don't think. the second time I started to feel strange so i stopped. i'd also like it for work to be able to access my aol emails. They have everything blocked here except LIW, and only b/c they don't know about it I'm sure. LOL

I think my Mom suggested that but I just don't want to carry too many things. My bag is already heavy enough and I usually walk from the building to the train station...it's only a little more than 1/2 mile but I try not to weigh myself down, Lord knows I weigh enough.

lol well i dont know what other features the blackberry has, but im sure they have games and a bunch of stuff. Now that i think about it, maybe its not worth it to get an iphone but thats if you have to cancel a contract and pay for it, i just realize that now. Dh wanted to get me the iphone for xmas and said he was going to cancel my sprint phone, and pay the $150 cancellation, when i heard he had to pay $150 JUST to cancel my spring contract to get an iphone, i told him to forgot it. He said it was no big deal but to me it was pointless, and im not that HUGE into phones and didnt care to begin with but for some reason dh wanted to get me that so i went along with it at first. Not sure how verizon is, but if you have to pay to cancel a contract then not worth it.
DO you like touch phones or prefer not to have one. I kinda like it to tell you the truth so thats another reason i did consider it, i like it better than using the keys on the phone

I am embarassed to say I am so challenged I don't even have an ipod. I know i know...everyone has one, but I don't. My little cousin got the itouch for Christmas and it's awesome, BUT it only works on a wireless signal so that wouldn't work for me on the train or at work, all wireless is blocked at work but the blackberry will work b/c it's a phone line. I think anyway.

You do have to pay to cancel and I don't want to leave Verizon my DH and for the most part, majority of my family have it and my Mom has a phone on my line, she doesn't do well with change.

Re: Help for a Technologically CHALLENGED person with a Blackberry...
I have the 8830 World Edition for work and love it. The only differences b/w the World and the Curve is that you can only use the Curve domestically (doesn't get service overseas) and the Curve has a built in camera, whereas the World does not.
If you don't care about overseas coverage, I'd get the Curve. You can surf the internet, use it as your phone, read your email, and play games on it.
Blackberries in general are very easy to use once you play around with them. GL!

I have the BB Pearl and when my contract is up I plan to upgrade to the curve because it's getting to small for me. I also can get on LIW from my browser and I know Verizon has applications for FB, and MySpace which are absolutely addicting! DH has the iPod touch and he can even use FB and the internet from there as well.
