HELP! I feel like Carrie in the Sad Mac episode on SATC!

My basically 2- months new MacBook (provided by my school district) seems to have crashed. It was acting all weird- very slow, with that lovely spinning wheel of death constantly. I had it going for a while so I just manually shut it off. Went to boot it back up, the gray screen just comes on with the apple and won't go away. We turn it off, turn it back on again a few times. Now we get the 'no' sign (you know, like the no smoking sign).

Have I lost EVERYTHING?! Has anyone had this experience before? I'm totally freaking out here. All my iTunes are on there (I never backed up the ones I purchased on top of what I've uploaded). Not to mention all my work for school.

Anyone?

I have a Mac Book but never saw that before. It sounds like something happened. Maybe take it to the Apple Store for them to look at. I am sorry I am not more help but here are some and i hope it isn't anything major that would not be good.

ooo - reset the PRAM

turn computer off
hold down: opt + apple + P + R + press the power button - hold all keys down until you hear the chimes twice, then release... that should work!

Thanks Nicole! I'm a little scared to do it myself though...if it was truly MY computer sure, but it's school property. I may wait and see if my tech people responded to my email.

Thanks for the support everyone! It was so funny cuz DH said 'Just hit control-alt-delete' and I cracked up and said- that's what Aidan did to make Carrie's Mac crash!!

It's kind of ridiculous how I can always relate something to a SATC episode.

not always...the ding dongs there (wearing a Genius shirt...ironic!) told me my old laptop (same model as Carrie's) was dead...couldn't get it to boot up at all...hadn't used it in like a year...so i ask him...are you sure it isn't electrical or the battery?? He says it's dead...blah blah...well i took it home, decided to plug it in & leave it plugged in...and in 2 days the things was FINE! The battery just needed to recharge so it could boot...i hope yours comes back!
