Help me with the WOTY! (repost from BHB)

I thought you married gals might have a great input on this as well....
_____________________________________
So I've been working with our officiant for the WOTY- April at the Church of Ancient Ways (BTW-what an AMAZING person!)
And she is helping to customize our ceremony.

And I got to wondering... what to YOU is the most important part of the ceremony?
What aspects would you like to see in our ceremony, that you normally don't get to see?

DH and I had a full blown traditional Catholic Mass and we want our renewal to be special and different... no only for us, but FOR YOU GUYS TOO!!! So any ideas of what you'd like to hear and see are much appreciated!

Looking forward to seeing you all on our special day! Especially at the church, since it's going to be REALLY special!!!

I sort of like having the traditional parts of a ceremony ...the vows, the ring exchange, etc. Its very dramatic and romatic when the couple is in love IMO.

Re: Help me with the WOTY! (repost from BHB)

Having had a full Catholic mass myself, I like to see NON-religious readings that the couple has chosen because they have special meaning or are just beautiful poems or expressions of love.

I also think it's important for the officiant to get to know the couple and to personalize the ceremony a bit.

Great idea!

We had to do this for pre-cana and I didn't even write a complete sentence before I started crying...

Re: Help me with the WOTY! (repost from BHB)

Blessing of the hands...

Bride, please face groom, and hold his hands, palms up, so you may see the gift that they are to you.

These are the hands of your best friend, young, strong and vibrant with love, they are holding yours on your wedding day, as he promises to love and cherish you all the days of his life.
These are the hands that will work along side yours, as together you build your future, as you laugh and cry, as you share your innermost secrets and dreams.
These are the hands you will place with expectant joy against your stomach, until he too, feels his child stir within you.
These are the hands that look so large and strong, yet will be so gentle as he holds your baby for the first time.
These are the hands that will work long hours for you and your new family.
These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness.
These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes: some tears of sorrow and others of joy.
These are the hands that will comfort you in illness, and hold you in fear or grief and calm your worrisome mind.
These are the hands that will tenderly lift your chin and brush your cheek as they raise your face to look into his eyes: eyes that are filled completely with his overwhelming love and desire for you.

Groom please hold Bride’s hands, palms up, so that you may see the gift that they are to you.
These are the hands of your best friend, smooth, young and carefree, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as she pledges her eternal love and commitment to you all the days of her life.
These are the hands that will hold each child in tender love, soothing them through illness and hurt, supporting and encouraging them along the way, and knowing when it is time to let go.
These are the hands that will massage tension from you neck and back in the evenings after you’ve both had a long hard day.
These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times.
These are the hands that will comfort you when you are sick, or console you when you are grieving.
They are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness.
These are the hands that will hold you in joy and excitement and hope, each time she tells you that you are to have another child, that together you have created a new life.
These are the hands that will give you support as she encourages you to chase down your dreams. Only together, can everything you wish for be realized.

Minister:
God, bless these hands that you see before you this day. May they always be held by one another. Give them the strength to hold on during the storms of stress and the dark of disillusionment. Keep them tender and gentle as they nurture each other in their wondrous love. Help these hands to continue building a relationship founded in your grace, rich in caring, and devoted in reaching for your perfection. May Groom and Bride see their four hands as healer, protector, shelter and guide. We ask this in your name, Amen.

Re: Help me with the WOTY! (repost from BHB)

Rose ceremony

In the Rose Ceremony, the Bride and Groom give each other a Rose. Two roses are all that is necessary. The Rose Ceremony is placed at the end of the ceremony just before being pronounced husband and wife. In the old language of flowers, a single red rose always meant 'I love you'. The Rose ceremony gives recognition to the new and most honorable title of 'Husband and Wife.'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Your gift to each other for your wedding today has been your wedding rings - which shall always be an outward demonstration of your vows of love and respect; and a public showing of your commitment to each other.

You now have what remains the most honorable title which may exist between a man and a woman - the title of 'husband' and 'wife.' For your first gift as husband and wife, that gift will be a single rose.

In the past, the rose was considered a symbol of love and a single rose always meant only one thing - it meant the words 'I love you.' So it is appropriate that for your first gift - as husband and wife - that gift would be a single rose.

Please exchange your first gift as husband and wife. In someways it seems like you have not done anything at all. Just a moment ago you were holding one small rose - and now you are holding one small rose. In some ways, a marriage ceremony is like this. In some ways, tomorrow is going to seem no different than yesterday. But in fact today, just now, you both have given and received one of the most valuable and precious gifts of life - one I hope you always remember - the gift of true and abiding love within the devotion of marriage.

Bride and Groom, I would ask that where ever you make your home in the future - whether it be a large and elegant home - or a small and graceful one - that you both pick one very special location for roses; so that on each anniversary of this truly wonderful occasion you both may take a rose to that spot both as a recommitment to your marriage - and a recommitment that THIS will be a marriage based upon love.

In every marriage there are times where it is difficult to find the right words. It is easiest to hurt who we most love. It is easiest to be most hurt by who we most love. It might be difficult some time to words to say 'I am sorry' or 'I forgive you'; 'I need you' or 'I am hurting'. If this should happen, if you simply can not find these words, leave a rose at that spot which both of you have selected - for that rose than says what matters most of all and should overpower all other things and all other words.

That rose says the words: 'I still love you.' The other should accept this rose for the words which can not be found, and remember the love and hope that you both share today.

Bride and Groom, if there is anything you remember of this marriage ceremony, it is that it was love that brought you here today, it is only love which can make it a glorious union, and it is by love which your marriage shall endure.'
