Help! particularly from any Jewish ladies!

I'm doing Christmas cards for the first time this year. A number of DH's family members are Jewish, as is his boss. (DH is Catholic...so he doesn't really know the answer to this or I would just ask him).

I got 'Happy Holidays' cards for his family members and his boss, who is also Jewish. However, the picture that we are putting in our envelope is our new kitten with an 'Our First Christmas Ornament' on our tree skirt which says 'Merry Christmas.'

Am I going to offend people if I send them this picture? And what do I do in the future? My Christmas/holiday cards are always going to have a Christmas theme to them because we celebrate Christmas. Do I just never send people a picture? Would you be offended that you got a cat on a tree skirt that says Merry Christmas or offended that you got no picture at all?

DH and I often get holiday cards from friends who know we are Jewish that are themed to their holiday, and we sometimes send out cards that are themed to ours. no offense taken or given ever. HOWEVER my one disclaimer is if they are at all orthodox (wear yarmulkes daily, keep the sabbath strictly, that kind of orthodox) I would refrain from Christmas-y pics. Other than that IMHO you're good to go! It is, in all seriousness, the though that counts

HTH! And Happy Holidays!

I called 1800 ASK A JEW and you're in the clear.

Also, I also called 1800 ASK A KRAUT and all German people will be gladly accepting care packages of sauerkraut and kielbasas this holiday season.

At least I know DH and I will.

I don't think people would be offended at all, esp. since you went out of your way to get them a Happy Holidays card :).

Re: Help! particularly from any Jewish ladies!

It's totally fine. If they're offended, they're nuts. Hopefully your friends and colleagues aren't nuts.

Growing up, we got cards with scripture quoted, images of Christ, etc, etc, and they made my mom uncomfortable but she's nuts and barely grew up Jewish anyway so I don't know what her deal is. But no one in their right mind would even bat an eyelash. I've since convinced my mom to calm the f down about being personally offended when people say things to her like 'have a blessed day' or 'we'll be praying for you' (DH and his family are from the south so she just has to understand that this is a friendly, kind thing people say and has NOTHING to do with religion).

So if my mom can deal, everyone you're sending your lovely cards to can deal.

I am Jewish and would not be offended. I happen to send Happy Holiday Cards out to my Catholic friends and Happy Hannukah to Jewish, but I could easily send Happy Holidays to both. You are in the clear!

Re: Help! particularly from any Jewish ladies!

i am jewish and i definitely would not be offended if you are sending the same card to everyone and esp since it is personalized it should have your holiday on it. If you sent me a store bought card that wished me a merry x-mas I'd probably think you do not know me very well.
