Help with a gift for my Godson *UPDATE - Thanks girls!*

Help with a gift for my Godson *UPDATE - Thanks girls!*

So I'm going to the Christening/Baptism of my best friend's second son, and I am honored with becoming his Godmother! How cool is that?!

Anyways...I'm not sure what to get as a gift. I am not of the same religion as them (I have my own spiritual ideas that don't really fit with any one religion...but hello I'm going off on a tangent) which isn't an issue at all for them, but as a result I don't know if I feel comfortable getting any of the more 'traditional' gifts for this event. I was hoping some of your creative minds might be able to think of something else that would be appropriate to the meaningfulness of the event and my role in it.

I'm also broke as all anything, (I'm flying from Boston to Buffalo to go, and don't exactly have tons in the funds department). Ideally around the $50 range would be perfect, but if it's a bit more, then I'll splurge.

So, in conclusion...any ideas ladies??

*UPDATE*

Thanks girls for all the ideas! I ended up ordering this personalized train bank from personalizationmall.com, and plan on getting a savings bond to go with it.

Re: Help with a gift for my Godson (kinda wordy)?

My best friend's son's Godmother (did you follow that one? ) named a star after him for his Christening.

The 'basic package' is $49.95 on this website.

And the 'custom package' (the least expensive, weird that they call it custom!) is $54 on this website.. The certificate is prettier here, IMHO

I have one of thsoe! farmed HUGEon my old bedroom wall..an ex did it for me so DH wouldn't let me take it to our new place

You can do a savings bond for him if you have all of his information like social security numbers etc. Thats what we give for a lot of christening gifts. Something he can 'grow into' rather than out of. Its also a non denominational gift yet shows you're thinking about his future.

I thought this was cute too... under 50 bucks but then you could add something small. Its a bedtime prayer plaque for the wall.

I really like this little cross...Maybe you can do something like the savings bond and a smaller gift?

This place has cute stuff

How about a children's book and a gift certificate to Borders or Barnes and Noble?

There is a lovely one called, On the Day that You Were Born. Not denominational at all.
