Help with venue

DUPLICATE POST FROM BHB BOARD:
Hi everyone -
I was wondering if I might get some advice from you all. My DH's sister is turning 30 in August and my brother-in-law is looking to throw her a big party. We are looking for someplace to have it. We are expecting over 100 people so it is going to almost like a mini-wedding. So far, some places we are considering are . . .
Old Field Club
Three Village Inn
Danfords
Harbor Club
Coindre Hall
Thatched Cottage (if they ever call me back!)
Vanderbilt Mansion (Lovin Oven caterers)
Does anyone have any feedback on any of these places? If anyone has any other suggestions, they'd be much appreciated. We are looking to stay under $120 a plate and would prefer a Sat. night. We would also like to stay in Suffolk county but not too far east (i.e. Eastwind Caterers would be a bit too far).
Thanks!

Re: Help with venue

Thats a big party - but does he really want it to feel like a wedding? Here are a few other suggestions:

Smithtown Landing - its also a lessings facility. Haven't been there in years but we had a few graduations parties there (though I don't think its as nice as some on your list)

Sunken Meadow Pavilion would be nice for a casual day party - if she's a beach person.

Port Jeff Country Club

Captain Bills has a great party room, and so does the Snapper Inn - both on the water.

I went to see Coindre Hall when wedding planning and I was disappointed. I didn't like the layout and felt like it needed a good cleaning. Also I was concerned that they don't cook onsite.

Harbour Club is great. My DH used to work there and was always impressed with their level of service. In the same area, there's Co-Co's.

I haven't personally visited the others on your list, but I hate the way Thatched cottage looks from the road. Vanderbilt Mansion would be my first pick, cause I'm biased towards Lovin' Oven

Re: Help with venue

Thanks for all the info Lisa!
The only reason I say the party will be 'wedding-ish' is that my BIL is very well off and, to be blunt, likes to flaunt it.
I heard the Port Jeff Country Club's catering division was going out of business. I couldn't find it on any of the wedding websites.
I kind of agree about Coindre. The place is slightly run down and I am a bit concerned about the food being cooked off-site.
Of course, Vanderbilt is the first choice but they won't let you book a party until 8 weeks before the date (saving it for weddings I guess).
Thanks again for all your advice!

Hi Michelle - Do you have any contact info for the Hamlet Windwatch (i.e. website or phone #)?
I've heard it is a really nice place.
Thanks!

If he can afford it, I would recommend Land's End. Also, what time of year is it? I got married there are the food and service were out of this world. With the location, I would even recommend doing something during the day.

Re: Help with venue

The main restaurant of the Milleridge Inn has a room that holds up to 110 people. In August you can have a Saturday night for under $100 w/ tax and gratuity included. You can have either a sit-down or buffet w/ unlim top shelf liquor and a cocktail hour.

It's not in Suffolk but it's easy to get to .

Re: Help with venue

I also got married at Smithtown Landing and we were very happy with the service and food. They are under $100 pp.

Three Village Inn is very nice -- I used to work there in my summer home from college. It was about $100 pp when I was looking for wedding places in 2000. Old Field Club is about the same price.

Years ago I went to a party at the Setauket Yacht Club. Don't know if you have to be a member but that worked well -- this was a long time ago though.

100 people is going to be tough to find someplace that's not a wedding hall.

What about Majestic Gardens? I have been to a few parties there.
