Hi Everyone!

Hi Everyone!

Sorry if it seems like I dropped off the planet! We closed on our house on August 22nd, and moved in on the 24th! We have been waiting to move our computer over there because we have no cables and stuff for our modem yet, so it's been hard for me to get online. I'm back at work now, so I can use my classroom computer. : )

Everything is great with the house. We have a lot of cosmetic changes to make, and a lot of decorating to do. It's so much fun, but quite expensive, so we have to do things a bit at a time. Our furniture is arriving slowly but surely, and it's really starting to look like 'home'!

I hope everyone here is doing well!!

Yippeeee!!!!

I kind of suspected that you had been able to close on the house and that's why you'd been silent. Great news!

Congratulations and Best of Luck!

I am happy to hear things are going well for you! I pray for the day when we can buy a house, but first we must decide where we really want to settle down. I feel like the only newlywed on the planet who is not house shopping!

Minibride - you`re not alone on the 'where to settle' issue!

Hubby and I are planning to relocate - to either Arizona or Long Island. How`s that for a wide difference between options!!!

My job ends in mid October - he want`s to move closer to his family in LI but it`s so ridiculously overpriced that we are considering moving closer to my family in Arizona. Right now the job hunt is on and the first good offer wins! We`ll be on LI if we can find jobs that cover the cost of living there - or will be in AZ if the best offer arrives from there first.

We`ve kind of left it up to fate, because hubby feels it`s a no-win situation either way - he`s either too far away from family, or paying way too much for living expenses - can`t win either way. So I know what it`s like to be agonizing over where to settle and to be wanting to be in your own house ASAP!

Karen H - amen, sister!

I think I'm agonizing more than hubby! We are on the west coast and we are comfy, but both families are on the east coast (not in the same place either). Cost of living is an issue here. We can't afford the housing market unless we continue to rent. Travel becomes a huge hassle around holidays and we constantly miss special events/occasions.

The difference btwn you and I is that you are looking for a job, and I have one. My company does have offices on the east coast, but my department is based here, and I am not certain I'd be granted the opp. to move, but retain my job. I find it very difficult to consider giving up my salary right now. So, we are saving for a big down payment and taking this time to decide where. The agony!

Good luck with your job search/home search! I understand your predicament and I appreciate the support for ours!

Mini bride-we are not house shopping just yet either so you aren`t alone. But we are also trying to figure out where. Most of our family is on LI or Queens. We are thinking pretty seriously of Putnam County (Carmel or Mahopac) but I keep getting the jitters. It`s only 50 miles north of NYC and beautiful but you`d think I was moving across the country. I just know 50 miles out to Suffolk and 50 miles through the Bronx, Westchester and into Putnam are very different to my family and I kind of like having people drop in. So I'm sort of glad we are not in the market just yet.

I understand completely. We toy with the possibility of going back to NY (my fam & friends) or WashDC/Virginia or Florida (his fam). We want the convenience of having fam & friends to spend time, but in some ways, not the obligation of being expected to attend every single family gathering. That's why we are considering a mid-way point. We've gotten kinda spoiled being on the opposite side of the country!
Although, it's nice to be very close to fam when the stork starts to pay visits! (although, that's not in the plans in the immediate future...)
Keep your chin up and your options open. 50 miles is nothing compared to 3,000!!

We are not actively house hunting yet either. We kind of get discouraged when we see how expensive housing is, and then the great debate ensues of where to live, (putnam county, suffolk county..etc) We have family all over, but need to take into consideration a good school system, (my son is 8.. :-) ) along with what type of after shcool options are avialable to us. I am abit spoiled now as my parents live sort of close by. So confusing..

I dont think..

it is supposed to be easy because we all seem to be in the same boat--
I live in NJ now (husband grew up here) and we have decided to buy a house here-- we were going to go further in to NJ because we can get more house for our money but the reality of it is my family is on LI-- so the driving already is long enough(they are out in eastern suffolk) so it is a tough call-- we saw beautiful houses we could afford in a further county and the comparable price in the closer county gets us a cape--which we dont want--it is def difficult --but we are learning alot about each other and our relationship.
;-)
