Myself and DH always have dinner with our friends at that time. One of my closest friend (that I've known since 2nd grade) host a dinner party every year. She makes incredible mac & cheese, baked chicken with cilantro, spices/herbs, peppers, etc. with rice, spinach knish, mashed potatoes, home made salsa & spinach dips for chips, corn on cob, garden salad...thinking about it makes my mouth water, lol. I can't wait!!! For dessert, we always bring over a pie or cakes. And she makes the coffee!

Christmas Eve is at my mom's and I know there will be a variety of Italian dishes...baked ziti, chicken parm etc...

I'm doing Christmas here and I haven't decided yet. Honestly, I'm a picker so I may do lots of different hors d'voures. I was thinking of maybe making fun stations like at a cocktail hour...like different pastas and sauces and a mashed potato bar and maybe like a quesadilla station. It's just my side of the family since FIL's wife (second marriage - not FH's mom - through a sh it fit and isn't coming to our house for Christmas).

Christmas Eve we always celebrate at my mom's house with our Argentinian family and other friends. We have a variety of things, each year is different. 2 years ago we had a whole lechon, or roasted pig. It was freaking crazy! We usually have anywhere from 8-18 people and serve up buffet style. Then at midnight we serve champagne and Pannetone. Very Italian, but acquired by Argentinians from their Italian descendants! Then Christmas day we have brunch at my parents around 11 am, homemade eggs benedict, steamed asparagus with holandaise, and mimosas! It's divine! The best Christmas tradition ever! DH kind of cried a little sad tear when he realized that was gonna be the deal for life, but it's too amazing to pass up! Then we go to his parents around 2pm for the rest of the day and night, and the traditional Italian Christmas dinner. Meatballs, Brasciola, Sausages...Mmmm!!

Re: Holiday menu's

We are starting our own traditions this yr....I am not a huge fan of xmas eve yet so until we have kids it will be a regular dinner, maybe baked ziti or something like that..I may decide to do 7 fishes later on in life, even though I am not italian...xmas day is all about brunch and then for dinner I want to make either rack of lamb or prime rib, sour cream & chive potatoes, green been cassarole, cheesy bread and for appetizer shrimp ceviche and dessert is berry trifle!!!!

Re: Holiday menu's

Christmas Eve at my parent's is deli-day....we get rolls, cold cuts, cheeses, potato salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw, pickles, etc...I love it. In fact, when we were splitting up the holidays I insisted that we do Christmas Eve over Christmas Day with my family.

Christmas Day my parent's usually make a ham or a pork loin, mashed potatos, veggies, gravy...which means I have the leftover sandwiches again haha. We decided to spend Christmas Day with DH's family, and usually his aunt does it with the big Italian food spread, but this year his parent's are doing it, and I have no idea what they're going to do...pot luck probably, which I'd contribute to if I had a working oven

Re: Holiday menu's

Christmas eve is the big Italian fish & pasta extravaganza. If DH has to work this year we will miss it & be in DC. I plan to make some king crab legs, & pasta for us at home.
Christmas day is fresh homemade manicotti & stuffed shells w/ meat sauce, and salad. I will just make these the way my mom does for us if we are home.

DH's family before we met would go out to dinner for Christmas eve after 5pm mass. (We do midnight mass in my family.) Then his mom would make ham for Christmas day, but I don't eat ham, so I don't make it.
