So what sites/books/magazines do you guys use for decorating ideas, creative touches, etc.?
Also, what are you favorite how to reference guides/sites for small house projects?
I went to visit the house we are buying yesterday and DH and I are all over the place with things we want to do. We do want to paint some rooms that need painting or don't match our decor before we move in next month. But I am sooo uncreative and artisitc. I have such a hard time envisioning things - I want to look at example and pictures for inspiration.
Thanks!

Re: Home Decorating
Hi! I like Pottery Barn's catalog for ideas, and Martha Stewart's Living and I watch a lot of TLC shows (While you Were Out, Trading Spaces) for ideas. I can imagine that with a new house it must seem daunting with so much space and area to decorate, I think little by little, room by room, it will all come together and once you get started it will look great. Good Luck and congrats on the house!

Re: Home Decorating
I have yet to find a book or a magazine that is worth their price to actually buy. All of them have one or two good ideas but the rest is ads and fluff.
So my suggestion is:
a) Take your time. You dont have to do it all now. Ive lived in my house for almost 5 years and Im not even close. Its a work in progress. Doing too much at once is overwelming, expensive and may lead to some choices your regret down the line.
b) As Stacedz says, Pottery Barn catalogs are great. Other catalogs are Restoration Hardware and Crate & Barrel and a few others depending on your tastes. They are free! And TLC is a great resource...trading spaces always has a few great ideas per episode.
c) Go to Barnes & Noble and *ahem* browse thru the decorating books and mags. You can glean those few good ideas and not have to pay for them.

Re: Home Decorating
since i am a interior decorater on the side, I can tell you to watch HGTV on channel 30 they have the best ideas- there are many different shows pertaining to all the subject of decorating. I have gottem many ideas from them. My suggestion to you would to be to start with an insipartion piece in each room - wether it be a particular knick nack, light fixture, rug, color etc and build around that. It will be much easier that way because it will give to direction to know what to look for when you shop. Also decide on which style you like ie. modern, asian, traditional country- that will give you some direction as well.
Good luck- Im sure your house will turn out beautiful

Re: Home Decorating
Thanks for the ideas girls.
Although we have lots of ideas for our home, we are going to start with painting the most important rooms (that need painting like the ones that we have huge furniture - dining room, guest bedroom) before we move in. Then, we will work on our family room and master bedroom (we are planning on buying this furniture first).
This site has some great idea for colors/painting and have pictures which I like.
If anyone knows any other great sites, pass them on. I get my weekly (or however they send it) Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel but are looking for some more especially online or a good magazine!

Re: Home Decorating
Actually Denise ... I'm living through this now. It's a lot of fun, but I tell you, it was also a lot of stress for me, because I wanted everything to be perfect. I think it took me 2 weeks to pick out paint colors!!! I just search on-line and live by the pottery barn and restoration hardware catalogs. We are moving in next weekend, I'll have to post some before and after pics! Good luck, I know how exciting this is!

Re: Home Decorating
I have a subscription to Traditional Home, which I really like and another subscription to HOME which is alright. I watch a lot of HGTV ideas and browse different housewares and furnishing websites to get ideas too.
