Home Prices

HI!
I live in Brooklyn now but was wondering about home prices in Long Island. We'd like to be within an hour of the city (so no farther than Huntington) - what should I expect to pay for a home with 3 bedrooms and around 1/4 acre of land in a nice neighborhood? I'm just curious for a ballpark figure. Is $300k reasonable, is $400k more like it?? What do you girls think??
Thanks for your help!

Re: Home Prices

Hi,
After months of searching in 'house hell' on LI I finally found a home I LOVE!!!!!. Depending on the neighborhood the prices can range. I would be on the border of Deer Park and North Babylon for $275. It is a cape home w/ 4 BR's., 2 Bathrooms, finished basement. I HUSTLED for this price so I would say $320-350 is about right. You can, however, find a home for 230-260 in not so nice neighborhood w/ 3 BR's. We got really lucky. The owner HAD to sell and his 1st deal fell through.

Re: Home Prices

We looked for a long time, like Curly said there is very little available for under 350,000 and to get 1/4 acre within 1 hour of NYC I think you are talking closer to 400,000. It alos depends on the condition of the house you are willing to accept. We have seen some really well priced handy person specials but we dont have the time or skills to tackle much more than redecorating. But you can get lucky. You never know you just have to get out there and look.
