You'd think I could use one of the 80 billion that I've worked w/ in Manhattan, but, since Manattan real estate is like no other place in the world...I don't trust 'em.
Anyway, I'd appreciate any referrals. Include their fee if you would. I know they run from $300 to over $1000 - we're looking for the best for the $$$, obviously! LOL

I wish I could help, but mine was horrible! I think you are right to ask for recommendations. We went with the attorney that my husband's job provided for free, and we got what we paid for... NOTHING! I hope you have much better luck. : )
Same with us. Our lawyer was terrible. He did NOTHING for us, and put all his work on his poor secretary. I will look into finding you a good lawyer. 2 of Jay's good friends are lawyers. Maybe they can recommend someone.

Kathi--Our attorney was awesome. He did just about everything for us. He is a friend of ours so I'm not sure what he charges but I am sure it is pretty reasonable. His name is Gene Gamache. His number is 631-265-4500 x24. Feel free to use my name.
My mom works in a lawyers office. You can call and talk to the lawyer that handles real estate. I do not know what they charge but IM sure they can give you that info. The # is 631-242-8190.

Michelle Bencivinni in E. Islip - 631-581-3755. She's usually in court in the mornings and returns calls at the end of the day. She seems to do a lot of real estate closings, has been very reassuring too, with every question we've had. She went over every detail of the contract, has had lots of patience with all our questions, returns phone calls promptly, and I feel confident that she is working to get the deal done, not delaying like I've heard is the case with so many lawyers. We were talking to her about my cousin's coop he wants to buy, and she had all kinds of good info, like telling us that you don't do a title search, but a UCC search instead, to make sure the owner hasn't had a lien put on their shares, etc. In short, we like her and she knows her real-estate stuff.
She's $750 for houses, $650 for co-ops.

My husband knows him from our old neighborhood and we used him for our closing last year. Great person all around. I think his fee was $900.00
The schools are excellent. (SD#4) That's one of the main reasons I was set on N. Bellmore/Bellmore.
We're hoping (and praying) that the one we really want will come through!! The 2nd one is great but just not as *ideal* as the first!!
