I can check back to see who we used (once I get home), but the only thing with the company was that they didn`t allow us to walk through with them. The guy from the company did all the notes during his inspection and went over things with us when he was through. He did file an extensive report .. which is normal for this company, not because the house had lots of problems. There were things this company didn`t go out of their way to inspect .. like the roof .. he simply looked from the ground (maybe through binoculars??), but the roof was new anyway.
If you think you might be interested in this company, let me know ... or if you want the name to stay away from them. :) The report was something like 40 pages, if not more. But I`m sure there are companies out there who allow you to walk through with them.
I can`t say off the top of my head that there was something the guy missed .. but I`d have to go back and look through the report to refresh my memory.
We used Brian Moraghan. My boss, the president of the company I work for, recommended him. He and all his family members have used Brian for all the houses they have purchased, as well as the 4 building industrial complex that houses the company.
We were happy with how thorough he was and we did walk through with him. He is a licensed consultng engineer (and architect). He's out in Brightwaters - 631-666-2019. He's usually out at job sites during the day. I always leave a message and get a call-back at the end of the day, around 5:30 - 6:30, sometimes a later. We're planning to have him come with us on our final walk through (he'll do that for substantially less than the first) just to make sure they did some of the electrical and heating repairs they were supposed to take care of.
Good luck with the house - tell Brian that Karen & Larry buying the house in Sayville sent you his way.
We can't find our engineers phone #, but his name was Tom Thomas, and is located in Center Moriches.
I'll be thinking about you and hoping for good things! : )
check out www.IslaEngineering.com
you`ll be more than satisfied with the service.
We got a recommendation from two people that my hubby works with. They both used this company and were very pleased. We've set up the appointment for this week!
Isla is pricey for what I've seen and heard. The inspection fee is based on the selling price of the house, not a flat rate. Maybe they feel people who spend more $ on a home can spend more $ for the same engineer's report as someone who's spent less... Kinda strange.
Anyway, we're this much closer to a home!!! LOL
