Was sooo sad! We went out with a broker in Merrick on Saturday-- she was very nice and the town looked very nice, and we saw some nice houses at nice prices, (and a couple of scary ones) BUT realized we don't want to leave the city yet!
So on Sunday we looked around Windsor Terrace -- one neighborhood over from park slope where we live now, and I fell in LOVE with a house that we cannot afford.
I love this house, love the location, but its a few hundred thousand out of our range Its also only 2 bedrooms -- I know its insane for the price, over 8K. Crazy!!!!!
The Merrick houses were bigger and so much less $, its making us so confused as to what to do.
I probably shouldn't have looked but we wanted to see it since it looked so great.
This is why I didn't go to Kleinfeld's to try on the Amalia Carrarra dress I loved.
Ok, thanks for listening. You guys offered us such great ideas as far as neighborhoods to look at, so I thought I'd give you the update.
Maybe we'll have to get a condo rather than a house.

My aunt and uncle have a brownstone in Cobble Hill so I am familar with the insane cost....perhaps a home in Kew Gardens / Forest Hills would be a good compromise....they are expensive also but I dont think as crazy as Park Slope...and you still have a city like setting and are closer to NYC then Nassau HTH

Yeah the prices do get high for houses in forest hills. Also check kew gardens and see if you find any houses. Forest hills and kew gardens is practically the same thing. I dont even know exactly where kew gardens ends and forest hills starts lol, you can live in kew gardens and still be 5 mins away from austin street in forest hills.
I am sad to leave the city too well Queens lol but we have no choice.

We live in NYC also and we're looking in Forest Hills and Kew Gardens as well.
We are SO sad to leave the city but we are just priced out of Manhattan.
We've been to FH every weekend and I am liking it more and more! I can really picture myself moving out there.
Are you looking for a house or a 2br condo?

We have looked at about 6 apartments in FH. We had dinner at Nick's on Saturday night. Yummy Pizza!
I haven't really gone shopping except I parused through Sephora on Saturday afternoon!

The apartment hunt is good. We are really pinpointing what we look and what we don't like. I'm definitely more of a 'renegade' than FH is. I think I watch too much HGTV for my own good!
We found this really amazing apartment that had great 'potential' but needed at least 100k in WORK If the price was lower, I would consider but DH is like 'heck no!!!!' I guess I like having 'projects' and seeing 'before & after.'
I saw Cabana and thought of you. We're definitely going to go there soon. I've had a craving for Ropa Vieja FOREVER!!!

Yeah $100k is a bit much, maybe if it needed work but a little less than that lol. I do understand what you mean, i like that sort of stuff too.
Ropa vieja is very popular at Cabana, you'll love it.

Can't wait! Maybe we'll go there next time. I also saw a really cute bakery I want to check out. Martha's bakery.
Do you and DH still live in the area?

Martha's is like the BEST. it kicks buttercup's ***. I think I told you that... buttercup makes their stuff the night before and martha's icing is so much fresher and the cake is softer. it rocks.

YES MARTHAS IS MY FAVORITE for my e-party i got the cupcakes from there. I also agree that I like marthas cupcakes way better than magnolias or buttercup in the city. Ive had cupcakes from both places many times and each time I think 'martha's is still better. The one in astoria has been around for years and always went there so yeah i was excited when they opened one up on austin street.
Yeah for now we are, but by January we are looking to move to LI

Oooh, we definitely need to check it out then. I was feeling particularly piggish this weekend so I had to stop myself from going into Martha's and ordering a cupcake!

I am definitely going to check out Martha's! I love a good cupcake..... My fave in the city is actually Sugar Sweet Sunshine on Rivington street. I also had Chikalicious cupcakes from their puddin' bar and it was SO good. Very different from a typical cupcake.
Are you looking to move far out on LI?

kinda yeah. We wont do beginning of nassau bc then it would be kind of pointless to move since right now we are only a few mins away from beginning of nassau. We are moving bc of dh's job so thats why we are looking around end of nassau beginning of suffolk MAYBE, but not real far out either. Huntington is the furthest i looked, well i went to kings park which was further than that but after going there i didnt like the drive there.
