How about...

and

LEVITZ??!
I've always though Levitz was cheesy. (no offense to anyone) Then again, I haven't set foot in a Levitz in YEARS.
Might have to check it out though.
That top one is $1899 for the couch, loveseat, lamp (which I'd throw away because it's ugly), coffee table AND end table!! We paid more than that for a couch we just bought for the den from Thomasville! I'm thinking that there could be a difference in materials 9woods, down filling vs. fiber, mass produced vs. custom upholstery) but then how important is formal living room furniture? I hate to spend so much $ on stuff that won't be used as much.

Re: How about...

It depends on what you are looking for. Levitz (and similiarly Seamans) has great 'dispsoable' furniture. Like if you plan on replacing in the next 5 years or if you have kids and cant have anything nice or are putting a room where you dont want to break the bank.

I bought a Seamens couch that is really a piece a crap but will do for the next year or so until we can afford to buy the couch we really want.

But if you want something quality that will last for 10-20 years, spend the extra money and get the stuff made well. But if you are not looking to keep this stuff for a generation or more - Levitz will do just fine.

I don't really have an opinion on Levitz, b/c I have never purchased furniture from them. But I just thought I'd let you know that they (and Seamans) are having a two-day sale today and tomorrow.

Re: How about...

Stef,
Between the family room, kitchen and master bedroom we're spending close to $8000. And we still have to get that TV or I'll have to look at those awful wires popping out at the wall for god knows how long.

Might be the only option, putting 'disposable furniture' (LOL) in the front room for the time being...especially since we're planning on getting a dog...

We decided that we'll splurge on the rooms that we'll spend the most time in when we move in and on rooms that are primarily for guests, we might be better off going cheap.

Re: How about...

We bought our leather couch and loveseat from Levitz, and it is GREAT!!!!!
I like that they have ZERO financing for a year with their card
I didnt think what we bought was 'disposable'

I actually like the first couch you shown.

Re: How about...

I'm not opposed to disposable furniture...especially since we have a puppy...

we bought a sectional from Macy's (I think they are similar to Levitz) and we've had our baby for 6 months...the couch is ruined...I'm so glad that we didn't spend a lot on it...

(did you get a dog yet susan?)

But Levitz is set up nicely when you go in...since you are spending so much...maybe you can get Levitz now...and upgrade later...

Re: How about...

If your getting a dog definatly DONT spend alot of money on your furniture until after the house breaking and training...My dog ATE my couch, and not just the material, she ate the WOOD!!!its terrible..

Re: How about...

Knowing you susan - i would take a visit to see the couch before you start counting the money you saved :D You may not like it as much when you see it up close.

But if you like it, then go for it. If you arent planning on using it much, you can always buy something new a few years from now.

And as Yabbo said - if you are getting a puppy, better not bother getting the good stuff now as it will be ruined!

Re: How about...

FYI - We had a lot of problems with Levitz' customer service/delivery. We ordered a 3 pc entertainment unit from them, 2 of the 3 pcs were damaged and one in such a manor that our hardwood floors were scratched. Then when the new stuff came in, one of those pieces had a broken door that had to be changed with one of the pieces they were taking out.

I know this can happen but they seemed to go out of their way to be as unaccomodating as possible in trying to get this straightened out - unreturned calls, getting the run-around, etc. They refused to set a convenient afternoon delivery and then when the replacement pieces were delivered in the AFTERNOON, ALL the paper work said AFTERNOON DELIVERY!!!!!!!

Sorry for the vent

On the other hand, I never had any problems with Seamans.

You do get what you pay for, as we all know, but if it's going to be in a room that's often used it should be ok.

Also, you are often able to change the lamps or tables that are displayed as a set with other pieces in the showroom.

We bought our bedroom set from there and the stupid drawers stick and the light on the nightswitch doesn't work unless you click it a hundred times. We wouldn't go back there. Also when it was delivered some of the things were broken and we made them take it back.

Re: How about...

Here's my experience: When we were looking for furniture, we looked at Levitz and we looked at the Bernhardt brand furniture at Macys. There is no comparison. They look the same in the picture, but the Levitz quality up close is not good at all. Bernhardt, on the other hand, makes wonderful furniture with custom ulphostery and attention to detail. We spent a LOT more than we wanted on our furniture, but we had the money (and got help from our families) so we decided to go for it. So I guess it depends on what your goal is.

this is one of our couches, which we ordered in a color similar to the one in the levitz furniture you posted.

Re: How about...

Thanks for all your opinions and experiences.
I can be a bit of a snob when it comes to this sort of stuff, so I'll have to go look...will keep the puppy thing in mind though.
Guess it's a matter of priorities. I could wait and save for the higher end stuff or just spend the money to get something in there ASAP.
Costs a lot of money to furnish an entire house!!

Love the couch!
Went to that site. Huffman Koos carries their stuff as well.

susans i love the top picture. I have a similar couch & chair & a half (color wise) I got from Fortunoff's.
You have great taste!
That is a beautiful set!

Re: How about...

Susan, Huffman Koos does carry their stuff and we went there first, but they are a bit more expensive than Macys. Good Luck!! We went to the Macys Gallery in Carle Place.

Re: How about...

I think they are both nice-I like your first choice better. Our living room furniture is a very simliar style & color. It's been my experience that Levitz/Seamans furniture can last a long time & look really nice while doing so especially if you're not hard on it. Sometimes when you have young children or pets it pays to invest in a product that has more durable/cleanable fabrics & better manufacturer protection policies.

Re: How about...

I also have had a miserable time with Levitz customer service. I wouldn't recommend going there. The aggravation is not worth the money saved.

On the plus side, the couch we bought at Levitz is starting to get ratty (2 years later) just in time to enlarge and remodel our den.

Re: How about...

Every single item in our home is from either Seamans or Levitz. We haven't had any problems... so far. You just have to do your research to know how to look for the higher quality/sturdier lines. In fact you'll find many of the same brands and items in places like Macy's and Fortunoffs.

Oh my god - Levitz's customer service is TERRIBLE!! You could die waiting on hold for someone over there to pick it up. I have a sectional from there that's only about two years old and it looks ratty too. I prefer Seamen's over Levitz anyday.
