How did/do you handle

How did/do you handle

Since it was kinda brought up in the 'Wedding Gift Qstion- Regarding Cash Amounts' post and it just happened to us,

What did you or would you do if a check bounced? We found out yesterday that it happened and we were charged a small fee for it, not much but still...what do you say to the person or couple?

It should be a week before we find out exactrly who it was but I'm not sure how to handle it or bring it up?

Luckily, it didn't happen to us, but I believe that the check writer also gets charged on their end. You might just want to send them a note, saying just wanted to let you know this happened, and then see what they say.

Re: How did/do you handle

we had one bounced check, and the person who bounced it knew and e-mailed me that they'd replace it- they haven't yet, I'm definitely not going to approach them about it though.....its someone I used to work with, she's the sweetest thing ever, I don't think she meant to 'stiff' me, but she might be on hard times since she just had a baby last year, I've decided to just forget about it.

Re: How did/do you handle

I've been thinking about it since I walked away from the computer for a little while....

I feel SOOOO guilty even asking this question. I know weddings aren't about gifts et all and hopefully this doesn't sound wierd but I kinda feel bad for whomever it was...it must be somewhat embarassing. I certainly didn't expect anything like that would happen...then again who really does?

In a way at least this person was there for me on my day.

we're very fortunate this didn't happen, but i was so expecting it to.

i think the best thing to do is after you're informed, wait up to a week, so you know that the giving party was also notified. hopefully, they would have contacted you by then. if not, contact them so they know what they're in for from their bank (shows you're not into the gift, just looking out for your guest). it would be nice of them to replace the gift, but if they're not in a position to, i think they should at least reimburse you for the cost of depositing their bad check, JMO. good luck with this, such a touchy subject.

Uck!

Just let them know...I'm sure they don't mean to...sometimes ppl get sloppy in finances.

It didn't happen to us, but if it had, I'd just let it pass. The bank will let the giver know that the check bounced, so my being silent won't do the giver harm. I wouldn't feel comfortable asking to get the check replaced--essentially, it's like asking for a gift (even though it's already been given). It should be the giver's choice to replace it.

It didn't happen to us, but I don't think I could bring myself to speak to the person.

omg, we had i think 3....and to top it all off they were either family or members of the bp....their banks let them know when that happens. we got 'replacements' from them....but still its so annoying.
