MIL just called and invited us to Thanksgiving. (3 months away!) I'm sad I won't be with my own family. How do you decide whose family to go to for the major holidays? (thanksgiving, xmas, Jewish holidays, etc.) How do you do it in your house? Just curious

We're lucky that we grew up in the same town and both of our parents still live here. So far, we've split the holidays. So, we spend part of each holiday with each family. Our deal is that if we eat dinner with one family for Thanksgiving, we eat Christmas dinner with the other family. And each year that will switch. For example, this year we had Thanksgiving dinner with his family and dessert with my family. Then hors d'ouvres with his family and dinner with my family for Christmas. Next year we'll do the opposite.

i'm jewish so we have 2 days for the major holidays. my parents r in florida. dh family is very small. we really never had prodblems

we alternate thanksgivings... and do christmas eve with his parents, and christmas day with mine. neither of our families does a big easter thing -- so we go to whoever.

It usually ends up being every other holiday every other year but it depends.....
Christmas it's every other year (xmas even is usually alwyas at my house and his rents come but that depends as well).....but this year with either my new neice/nephew, we wil be going to my side for Christmas Day, his side for christmas eve.
Thanksgiving we did with his family this past year which means this year we'll do my side.
Easter we did with my family this year so next year it will be his
sometimes we do dessert at the opposite sides.....
etc...

that day of whatever holiday it is, we go to both homes. but we switch every year were we have dinner and dessert BUT we have 3 houses to go to because DH parents arent together so sometimes DHs dad will have thanksgiving x-mas ect the day before or after and we go there and spend the whole day. its really tuff!!

This Thanksgiving I'm actually going to a wedding...not sure about the other holidays. We'll just have to wait and see.

For us it is easy. We have Thanksgiving here and ask both families to come. Whoever wants to come can come. We spend Christmas Eve with DH's parents cause that is their big christmas holiday celebration and Christmas day with my mom (my dad does not celebrate Christmas) We go to brunch for father's day with both DH's dad and my dad Mother's day we try to get both mom's in the same day. ... I don't remember what we did for easter last year.
