How do you decorate your tree?

How do you decorate your tree?

Do you create a themed tree or are you more ecclectic with your ornaments?

I wanted white lights for a 'clean' look to our tree to showcase my wide variety of ornaments (mostly pooh related heh) but DH really wanted these funky colored lights so although he let me have the white, I felt bad and went back and bought him the colored lights and returned the white.

My family always had colored lights; no theme. Just whatever we'd collected over the years plus we always made a few. I think I'd like to try that with the DH: making one ornamnet apiece for our first tree.

I have mostly pooh ornaments (cause I love him); I buy two Hallmark ornaments every year; expensive yes, but its tradition and I also get them cheaper during the summer on EBay. I splurged a lil' this year and got a few because its our first xmas.

We also have some others and the classic balls (unbreakable due to kitties being destructive) and things.

These are my hallmark ones for this year;
We love chinese food.

Mom gave us this one

I bought this one because reminded me of my grandma;not our 1st christmas without her but first as a married couple when she's not around; She wanted me to marry Pete but didnt get to see it. In person its a beautiful ornament; silver and heavy quality. It would make a beautiful gift.

This one I bougth as a gift for my mom; we're closer now that I am NOT living at home!

DH got me this one-we love to cook for one another.Sorta our thing.

This is my fave this year-called A world of hope-little glope spins. Sooo cute!

Re: How do you decorate your tree?

Our tree has the colored lights already on and as for ornaments I have amassed quite a bit over my years. Last Christmas I bought DH a set of dragon ornaments so I think that's what the tree will be decorated with this year. We have a small tree due to limited space.

We just bout a pre-lit tree with white lights, and I put on it ornaments that I have accumulated over the years.
Jewel colored teardrops and long tubes, matte not shiny ; long tubes in gold flecked glass ; clear tubes with gold trees and stars and matching clear pear shaped ; glass pinecones in silver and gold ; some matte and shiny silver balls with matching long tubes ; matte blue balls with gold stars.
About 6 different glass santas and two glass cats, one brown and one grey for my two kitties that have passed.

His mom gave us some really old and not to my taste ornaments (my in-laws are hoarders, they have some really old crap) but I was nice an put them on the tree, the back part that faces the windows.

I just need to buy a 'our first christmas' ornament because we don't have one, and a star for the top.

We have a tiny table top tree and it's branches don't support much weight. So we don't have many ornaments except some small glass balls and colored lights. I like colorful eclectic trees.

We got one of the cheap light up plastic stars for the top, in Target but I tested it and looks good; just really shiny. I wanted a red metal star btu DH said no no ahd to look like star of bethleham -snickers- so we went with illiminated plastic.

I usually like white lights on a tree, but since our tree came with colored lights, I'll deal with colored light. We don't really have a theme, we are using ornaments that we like. We had picked up a couple of ornaments after Christmas last year and were given a set of The 12 Days of Christmas ornaments as gift last year, so those will definetly be on our tree. We bought a couple of ornaments when we were on our honeymoon and some when we went shopping the other day. We decided that we would buy each other an ornament every year so we can build on our collection.

We just got our pre lit tree. DH wanted colored lights I wanted white I won! I also wanted a uniformed tree because I figure when we have kids we'll have one with character ornaments and ornments that they will make in school so for now I get the tree that I want. Our theme is blue/silver/white. DH like these branches that you scatter around the tree and they have blue lights on the end. So I guess he got his colored lights.

once me & my brothers weren't little anymore, mom always had a gorgous themed tree....all gold and pink with beads, garland, bows...everything had to match lol. DH & i's tree is totally ghetto and i love it :) it's maybe 3 1/2 - 4 ft., standing on a box to give it some height - and it's ALL different colors. ornaments from family & friends, our wedding ornament(that we gave as favors), little red bows, candy canes & fun ornaments i love it! very colorful and full of 'christmas cheer' heheh i love our little tree!

Re: How do you decorate your tree?

I'm really rigid (I know... 'no, a german is rigid???' ) about things matching (both style and color) in our home. Mercifully, DH has absorbed and adopted my design style so there's no need to compromise.

Our ornaments are all red, white, clear, and silver. Our lights are white, and our topper is a silver star. Our 2' trees in our windows are silver tinsel trees with all red ornaments and white lights / silver star toppers.

this all matches the black/grey/white/steel/glass/stainless/red apartment

so everything matches no matter if you're in the kitchen, dining room, livingroom, or bedroom....

We like a tree with character. It is done with white lights but has lots of fun ornaments. My mom has given me a ornament every year to match whatever I am up too that year. I have pandas playing soccer, skiers, badminton raquets.......

Putting up our tree could last a day because every ornament has a story

This is our tree. Our house is under construction so we have it set up in what would be a bedroom but we are using it as a sitting room. (I hate whoever thought a good place for an AC was right in the middle of the wall)

Our tree's not up yet, we're going to get it on Sunday. But I wanted white lights and we have them at home ready to go along with all the ornamements I've acquired over the years plus a few we got on the honemoon and some we bought recently, it won't be perfectly coordinated but I think it will come out nice.

yeah, it must be a gene defect in our lineage I think DH may have it too, becuase technically, my ancestors come from bavaria and silesia (eastern germany), and he comes from western poland.... so it's pretty much the same thing

not at all.... I never told you this, but I think you have a twin (of indian descent)..... I have a friend who is extremely similar to you.... in personality, the love of 'hot' colors, even in appearances... actually... in eclectic style too... Her style is different from mine, but all the items seemed to gel together quite well

too bad she is living in Bahrain right now.... you guys would probably get along really well.....
