How do you make corned beef?

How do you make corned beef? I wanted to make my DH the traditional Irish meal tonight to celebrate his irish heritage, only problem is I have no idea how to cook corned beef. I've seen roasting and boiling and I'm leaning more towards roasting. Any suggestions?

We made ours this weekend in the pressure cooker. it took an hour, and it was delicious. if you are deciding b/w roasting and boiling, I'd say roast it.

Ours is in the crockpot at home right now

It's a tough, fatty cut of meat, so the slower you cook it, the better.

11.5 hours for us

I boiled mine on the stove. Bought the thin cut (the kind that's NOT on sale- so I paid a fortune)

Boiled for about 1.5-2 hours then added carrots, cabbage and potatoes and boiled for another hour. It came out great!

We boil ours (actually it is suppose to simmer not boil). We get a brisket cut, more tender, and put it in water with a few tablespoons of pickling spices (it may come with a bag of spices).

I boil it for about 2.5 hours. After 2 hours I throw in some red russet potatoes and the last 15 minutes a whole cabbage quartered!

Take everything out of the pot and put it on a platter and slice up the meat. I also make homemade butter .

TO make the butter. Pour heay cream into a large mason jar, don't fil it more than half way. Add 1 tsp of salt and SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE
DH usually shakes the butter, it takes anywhere from 7-15 minutes shaking depending on how lazy he is. Pour off the liquid (butter milk) and put into a pretty dish and serve with Irish soda bread!!
Enjoy

I did ours in the crockpot. I added the carrots and potatoes. I will do my cabbage seperately because I don't like mine too soggy.

Thanks girls. I found a recipe that said you could rost it at 350 for about 2 hours (we only had a 1.5lb brisket) so I baked it with foil over it. It came out great! I used the meat thermometer just to make sure it was cooked all the way through and it was! FH was so happy! He was so proud of me.
