How far in advance...

do you and DH planned? Some of my friends make fun of us that we plan every little detail of our lives out for the next 5 years or so. We are both such 'planners' - I am jealous of people who aren't such planners, makes me think I'm a little crazy sometimes. Just wondering how many of you newlyweds have the next 'x' amount of months or years planned out (i.e. kids, career, house, new cars, vacations, vacation homes, etc.) And yes we have all of those planned out.

(I posted this by mistake on NWR, so I'm posting it on Newlyweds now.)

I was talking to DH about this the other day, I wanted to know when we would be looking for a house. We spoke about what we will be doing within the next 2 years. Anything after that we probably won't plan but it will be brought up....just not now.

We are a weird combination of flying by the seats of our pants and planning but not doing on time. We were going to start looking for a house in January, after the holidays. By the time we got things rolling it was late Feb. We also needed a new car, which we put off for a while. Then all of a sudden DH said, 'When you get home today we'll go get a car.' And we left several hours later with a new car!

I had a definite timetable for my life for a while- I wanted to be married by a certain age (I think it was 27) and have kids, etc by a certain age, and it got me depressed because none of it happened when I'd planned! So I am trying not to lock myself into plans and dates. I am hoping to have a baby by the end of '06, but I also want to be flexible because there are no guarantees.

Right now, 1-2 years.

We have a plan in mind of when we want to start looking for ahouse, which is in about 2 years. Anything before that would be a bonus.

After 2 years, things get fuzzy because so much can change.

For the future, having children and buying a house, we plan about 2-3 years ahead. For vacations we plan 6 months to a year ahead or a week ahead

DH is a freelance writer. Very hard to figure out our financial situation from one year to the next right now, so we don't really plan like that. We're also both Perceivers on the Briggs Meyer personality scale, not planners by nature. Perceivers don't like plans.
