I was looking at some of the posts about dress preservation and I am of two minds about dress preservation. I want to preserve my dress, but on the other hand...
I really hate the idea that I can't take my dress out and look at it when I feel like it. Although I don't have any reason to wear it again (unless I plan to traipse around my house in it on random occasions), I like the idea of knowing that I can.
If I decide not to preserve it chemically, how long do I have before it 'goes bad'. The dress is made of silk shantung. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Re: How long B4 your dress 'goes bad'?
I got my dress preserved but they actually suggest you take it out every so often and check on it. So if that's your only concern I would get my dress preserved.

really? if it's hermetically sealed, how is that possible?

I haven't had mine done either and I wonder the same thing....it's still in the garment bag.....

I thought so too! BUT I just read that article I just posted above and it says to let the fabric 'breathe'...interesting...
interesting reading... but now I have to check and see if the place I was going to use preserves the gowns in plastic.

Mine is in a box, not sealed in plastic. I can't imagine being sealed in plastic being very good for the dress. Doesn't it need to breath?

This is so complicated. What causes the fabric to go bad? I am so confused.

I never did it, and my dress still looks fine.

Do you mean it goes bad before you preserve it?

Yes, I am wondering what will happen to my dress if I don't go through the preservation process?
