Hi Newlyweds & Congrats! I have a question about the name changing process... what did you have to do to change your name and how long did the process take? I am getting married in June and will be back from my honeymoon at the end of the month. I want to book a trip for the first week of August but I am not sure if i will have enough time in between to change my name (so, i'm not sure if i should issue the ticket in my maiden or married name)... thanks so much!

Well you have to wait for your marriage license to change your name at social security...it can take 2 weeks or up to 8 weeks to get your license...then you go and fill out the forms. Also, is it it domestic or international? Your passport and travel voucher has to match and to get your passport in time wont happen.
I would do it in your maiden name just in case

Def do it in your maiden name and wait till you return to change your name. Just in case anything goes wrong! In my case my name change only took a month to get all my documents but I have a feeling I was pretty lucky and not the norm!

ITA with the above posters. Some gals on here have had to wait an unexplained long time for their marriage certs. Play it safe!

ITA.. do it in your maiden name. we were lucky and came home to our marriage licence, but your passport could take a while to change and you would have to bring SO many things with you to avoid the issues. it happened to my SIL's sister. that her passport still had her maiden name and it was a PITA to travel.

I did it the second week we were married..I am so OCD so I had all the forms ready and filled out before the wedding so I just grabbed them and did it all in that second week....it wasn't too bad.

I had to wait for my marriage license to come..it took about a week..about 2 weeks it takes, maybe 3 the most!

OMG I didn't get my marriage license for MONTHS - I know it's not the usual but you can always delay name change and can't make it happen faster - esp since you change name on SS first but don't have to do driver's lic. . etc which would be your ID until you are done - case in point I have changed my name on ss and banks but STILL have not made in to the DMV I am just seriously never free when I could go - so have been travelling - renting cars etc with old name -
