I'm sitting here writing mine (2 months after our wedding - I feel terrible!) I'm on vacation right now, so I finally have time to write them. I'm trying to make each one personal because I believe my guests deserve that (and those who sent gifts who did not attend). But it's taking sooo long and once vacation is over it will take me forever to finish them! My shower was a week before the wedding so I wrote 50 thank yous for those in the last couple days and I'm finally making a dent in the wedding thank yous - but i have over a hundred left to go...
just venting....

Well you are better than I am. Just about 4 months now and I haven't gotten the Thank you's from the photographer yet!
Someone told me you have year. I think thats too long, but I've received thankyous up to six months later.

How long did you all take to write thank yous??
i got married in July, and all of my thank you's were out by mid September. HOWEVER, if September 11th hadn't occurred as it did, I never would have done them that fast. Patrick was working 12 days, 7 days a week, and I had a lot of lonely time on my hands.
Judging from experience, I'd say about 6 months is average, so relax. : )

I had mine out about a month and a half after the honeymoon. Any that arrived more than 2 weeks before the wedding went out before (we did not do pictures in the thank yous) and I was so paranoid about taking forever that I put myself on a strict schedule of writing 10 per day, even pre-addressing envelopes and taking my notes to work with me, so I could write a few during lunch if I had the chance. 10 per day worked - I got them out quickly and somewhat painlessly.

I sat down one weekend and wrote all of our thank-you notes out. I never expected to finish all of them but I did. I also make address labels up from the guest list so it made addressing the envelopes much easier. We got married on October 20th and the thank you notes were out by our 3 month anniversary.
Good Luck

I had the majority of them out in 2 months. I just finished the final few that were left to people who sent gifts after our wedding.

We got married 9/15 and had them out by 12/15. Finished some earlier but were waiting for pictures then decided to just scan pictures myself. We were still getting gifts after the wedding. But any gifts we got before the wedding I sent out Thank You's before the wedding.

We sent all of ours out together just before our 2 month anniversary. I didn''t use the photographer''s thank yous, I bought Mr & Mrs informal notes that matched our invites so I was able to pre-address many of them.
I did about 10/day like Karen and it was painless... The worst part was trying to come up with creative ways to thank our guests for money!

Finished in just under 3 months...
...which seems to be average, based on the feedback of other ladies.
I would suggest getting a few done each night, like Karen H did, and try not to hold them up for too long.
While etiquette might suggest that a guest has up to a year AFTER the wedding to SEND a gift, it is considered poor taste for a thank-you note to arrive any later than 3 months after the affair.
And, if you are not prompt in sending them out, your guests might be left wondering whether you received their gift at all.

4 1/2 months and counting...
I actually just got the call yesterday from the photographer that my thank you's came in, so I'll pick them up on Tuesday and start doing them. Of course, I picked up the cards over 3 weeks ago with the intention of getting them all done so that when the picture came in, I'd just stuff it in & mail it. Yeah sure. I don't know what happened to me, I'm usually Miss Organization and ever since we got back from the honeymoon, I've clicked off anything & everything wedding-related!!! My videographer is still waiting for me to send him pictures from the honeymoon! I still haven't gotten the disposable cameras developed. I've done a total 360 degree turn from myself -- I'm usually right on top of things! Just the thought of writing all of those out(plus I have carpal tunnel & had surgery last year) gives me agita!!! LOL :-)
But I do know that I'm not the only one to blame -- my proofs didn't come back until Thanksgiving and I went away, and then it was December and they were booked because of the holidays, so I couldn't do anything until January. So, that makes me feel a bit better that it wasn't all my fault!!!! Now that I think about it, it was their fault 100%, right? LOL!!!!!

About 2 months
I had surgery and we picked up the thank you's the day I came home from the hospital. I had to stay home and rest for a few days so I spent my time writing them out. It was such a relief to get them done!
