How long do you keep casual dishes?

How long do you keep casual dishes?

Dh bought a set for me about 3 years ago. Of course since he is insane, we have 16 place settings, including ice cream bowls with all the accessories. All together it adds up to a lot of money.

Of course I am getting a bit tired of it, but DH isn't willing to discuss this yet

When do you think it would be OK to change the dishes?

i have had my casual dishes for 6 years! they are a solid blue from Ikea.

if you are ready for a change, change them!!! or maybe buy a coordinating set so you can mix it up a bit!

We will have to keep ours for a long time, we have almost all the accessories and I could never replace all of it without spending a lot! But, I know I will be bored soon. I say pick a set and slowly work it into your kitchen, maybe he wont notice. LOL

We have multiple sets of casual dinnerware and just switch them when we get bored, for different seasons or for entertaining. If you have the room, hang on to them and just purchase a new set. It's not like you have to get service for 12 with a new set.

Funny, I was just thinking of this yesterday!

I still love my everyday pattern and it's in relatively good condition, so we'll keep them for another year or two. (we've already had it for about 4 yrs)

I wouldn't feel TOO guilty buying a new set though - and like Jenny said, you can always keep it and use them as backups if needed down the road.

Thanks for the replies. DH Thinks we should hang on to it for TEN years

I am now thinking of getting a few pieces of dishes we would use everyday but keep this other set for when we have company. Maybe it won't bother me as much if I don't have to use it as frequently

I have 5 sets of casual stuff-one of them is correll(super cheap) but I really love it. The others are Pfaltzgraff, none of them were terribly expensive & two of them can mix & match. 1 set is strictly for winter, my snowman set. I like to change often & I think ten years is a really long time unless the set was extremely expensive. With the kids(& my own clumsiness)my sets would never make it ten years & I can't justify spending that much.
Invite me over for dinner & I promish to break at least one plate

The set that I got for my shower I am already tired of I want to get another set. I'm glad that they were fairly inexpensive so i won't feel guilty!

I am a dish collector. I LOVE dishes and getting new ones. I got my new casual set for my bridal shower (in 2002), but I started collecting pieces of it back in 2001. It is Lenox Butterfly Meadow. I am still in love with it.

I also have Christmas dishes, but those are only for December.

Keep an eye out for sales and start to slowly collect a new set. Soon, your husband will not realize that they old stuff has been replacement.

I think he'll notice new dishes...LOL

I think I already said it - but I'll get a small set or two of dishes that we like that we could us on a rotating basis and keep this other stuff for when we have company since we have the platters, serving bowls, gravy boat, and so on.

Kelly - thanks for the offer!! Your're the best
