How long does the whole name changing process take?

I haven't changed my name yet and I thought it would be nice to do it for our 1 year anniversary. Can I do it in time for Oct. 9?

Well, it depends what you mean. I went to SS in person, and that took about an hour, but then it was a few weeks until they mailed my new card. It was faster than I thought though. SO, that might be ready by OCt.9.

You need that to go to DMV & I think they gave me a temp license right there, & the new ones came in a few weeks, so that wont' be ready in time, sic en you haev to wait on SS, but you mayb be able to go by the9th, if you SS comes by then, and then you'd at least have your temp license.

Credit cards you can do over the phone & those should arrive in less than a month.

No I can't! This year completely flew by, which is a good thing I guess.

it takes forever, but if you have all the necessary things, like youre lisence, and the forms (which dont take long to fill out) then you could definitely do it by Oct

I guess the whole process took me about two weeks (but things are still wrong, I am on my fourth new credit card for one of mine and they can't get the name right!). I got it done fast though because I wasn't working or in school at the time. I think you could definitely do it in a month. GL!

It takes forever!!!!!!!!! I waited in motor vehichle 4xs and the lines were outrageous! I get there at opening and have like # 500 when they r on 2 ; )

I believe I changed SS last & used my marriage certificate everywhere else.

i am so not looking forward to that!! how long though does it take to get your actual license?? should i be worried that it will be a month in 3 days and we still don't have it??

Your marriage license? That is a little long, but if you filed in NYC then, it is not unusal.

WE GOT OUR LICENSE TODAY!!!

DH took it to work and made 4 copies, and was shocked when i was like, 'run off 25 more!!' it's sick how many papers to fill out...and since i teach, of course when we got back in school, they handed me more change of name forms just for the DOE!!!

I'm just glad i can finally start mailing out my forms or standing in long lines
