how long to get your official marriage certificate?
Hello
my first post on the newlywed side! (Still have to post my review!) Anyway how long does it takes to get your official wedding certificate? Isn't that what you need to get a new ss card?

Hi and welcome! We got our official marriage certificate about a week and a half to two weeks after the ceremony. When we did, I went straight to the SS office (lucky me, it's across the street from my job) and applied for a revised card, which I also got very quickly, like within 2 weeks of applying.

I am still waiting! Supposedly there is at least a 2 month delay if you got it processed in NYC.

thanks for the posts. Oh I got mine in NYC so I guess its not a surprise I didn't get it yet! Can you use the receipt to get a new ss card?

Got it the Saturday I returned from the honeymoon!
Thus, 3 weeks exactly.

You can go in person to the office where you got your license and get it from them. Be prepared for a very long wait.

we got ours in one day- took it to brookhaven town hall got it typed up right on the spot

Our's was mailed back the day after our wedding - Islip Town Hall called me the next day after that because the day of the ceremony wasn't filled in and I received it in the mail with 2-3 days after that.
On a side note, when I ordered my official transcripts, they spelt DH's name wrong on them I had to laugh at that one. lol So now I'm waiting for my new set - but getting the copies only took 3-4 days also.

For those waiting for your certificate in Brooklyn - was it a 2 month wait for you too? I'm antsy to start changing my name and tired of waiting for it to come!

I got married on May 22 and had it delivered to my MIL's house. We had it be the time we got home from our honeymoon. She said it was at the house 4 days after the ceremony

Ours came in the mail when we returned from our honeymoon, that was 2 weeks later!
