How much did you pay for calligraphy?

My SIL wants to start this as a side business. She's trying to get an idea of what to charge.

Thanks!

I ended up using Inkspun because hand calligraphy was out of my price range - but I recall being quoted anywhere from $1-$3 per envelope for hand calligraphy.

How much she should charge really should depend on how talented she is. Also, I guess her turn-around-time should be a factor ... if she's doing it as a side business, then she probably wouldn't be able to complete jobs as quickly as someone who is doing it full time.

There is a difference between Calligraphy and just having a pretty handwriting. People will pay more for a Calligrapher who can match invitation lettering styles.

The average going rate for a professional calligrapher is usually around $3.00 - $4.00 per envelope. Some calligraphers charge $1 per line (meaning that if they have to write more on the envelope, they charge more for it ... like adding an apartment or addressing something overseas).

I have heard of Manhattan calligraphers getting as much as $9 per envelope

I've seen the work of the hand calligraphers that a lot of LIWers use who charge $1.00 an envelope, and to be completely honest I wasn't impressed. Sorry if people find that offensive, just giving my honest opinion. In my line of work, I have seen A LOT of calligraphy, both good AND bad.
