I know this has been a topic of discussion in the past but I'm still confused. I was dating my husband for over 8 years before we got married. I always planned to wait at least a year before trying to have a baby but now I'm just not sure. I'm turning 33 next year and have been married just 2 months. I keep hearing how difficult it gets to get pregnant the older you are. Part of me wants to get pregnant soon anyway I've been with my husband for such a long time that there really isn't an adjustment period to get over. But part of me doesn't want to rush into anything and wants to make sure I don't miss out on anything by just being a couple and not a trio. We both want a big family (at least 3 kids) but at my age I'm not sure it would be possible to have that many especially if I wait 1 year as planned. I'm not sure I'm getting my point across...that's how confused I am. Has anyone else been there?

How soon to have a baby?
Maria ,
I think only you and your husband know when the time is right . I just turned 34 and we also want 3 kids. I got pregnant ( not trying ) after being married only 5 months , but then had a miscarriage , so now we are going to start trying again . The experience has only brought my husband and I closer together . If both you and your husband are ready , then go for it . best wishes !

How soon to have a baby?
Hi Maria!
I understand exactly where you're coming from. We just got married 6 weeks ago, after being together for 5 & 1/2 years (living together for 5 years). I'll be 32 soon and am also wrestling with the age issue. There's so much we still want to do as a couple - travel, advance our degrees, and although we do want kids, we are enjoying having our 'selfish' time. It's been a hard decision, but we're waiting at least one year before we try to start our family. I wish you and your husband lots of luck as you choose what's right for you both.

How soon to have a baby? (long)
I think this is a very personal choice, one that would be difficult for any newlywed to give advice on. You and your husband must do what's best for you. The truth is, there's never a 'right' time. There will always be something or somewhere that you'll wish you had done, seen or traveled to before babies come along. (there's always retirement!)
However, don't underestimate the magnitude of what having a baby means. I have heard so many people say that no matter how old you are, what you've accomplished or where you've been, there's no greater reward or more wonderful feeling than that of becoming a parent for the first time, and each and everytime that may follow.
Regarding age issues, I think that you should discuss that with your doctor. True, there are some really scary statistics about difficulties conceiving after the age of 30. You should educate yourself on what the risks/benefits might be.
Above all, remember that life is so short, and we should be thankful for everything we have, like our loving husbands. If you are blessed with a new life, celebrate it. I wish you the best of luck, whatever you decide.

baby- life changing they say
I dont think that what your age is should
determine whether it is the 'right' time
to have a baby.
I'm 34- so am I over the hill? all hopes
dashed?
I dont think so- neither does my DR
Which is my other point- talk to the DR and
see what they have to say.
What counts more towards the 'right' time
is if you BOTH are ready to RADICALLY change
the way you live now: no more sleeping in,
no more last minute trips, etc.
we decided that a year as Mr & Mrs before we
are mom & Dad would work best for us.
But, who knows, in this economy- and in my industry-
Advertising- we may need to wait a bit longer.
No fun being pregnant and looking for work!

Re: How soon to have a baby?
Yes it may be more difficult to conceive after 30 but I know many women who have had several babies after age 35 without any artificial help! I even know a few women who have had healthy babies in their 40s!
I agree with phyl - its life changing so don't make any decisions until you are SURE. Don't allow your age to push you into a decision - there is plenty of time.

Age
Hello to everyone. It''s been a while for me since
I''ve been in to say hello. Take your time; don''t rush into it.
Fran - my aunt had her 1st at 43, no help and her daughter is beautiful.
I just found out I am pregnant. I''m married 17 months now. It''s a wonderful
feeling but you immediately get the reality that 'life is going to change'. I''m ready,
but it''s still a change. My husband and I enjoyed every minute of our first year married
and are still enjoying, but things will be a little different now. You have to think
of so many things. For those of you who just went through the planning and preparation,
ENJOY the quiet time now with you husbands. The first year can be wonderful. You learn
so much. Good luck to all.

No, I haven't. I didn't know it existed.
Yes, I just found out. I'm due June 2002. I'm
just finishing my 6th week. It's exciting and a
little nerve racking too. Water, water and more water.
I hate water too, but have to drink it..
CONGRATULATIONS! to you too. I'll see you at

Thanks
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the advice. You're all right that I shouldn't let my age dictate my life. It's just that I've been with my husband for years before we got married and by then the wedding seemed only like a formality. We feel like we've already been married for years. Thanks for taking the time to listen to me vent. It's definitely something we'll need to think about for a little while longer.
