How the hell did this happen - house hunting and me?

How the hell did this happen - house hunting and me?

All I did was put in a mortgage application to see 'SEE' what we could afford for a home to see if we should renew our lease for a year in Oct. NOW I started this thing with my husband! We were told what we could borrow and if we can borrow less then that high amount we would get approved right away ouce we submit a zip/tax amount.

So now we have plans to go house looking on Saturday! I mean we can't buy a house now - we have a lease that is not up until October!!! I have two months security which can buy us some time but I don't know how long the process is to buy a house anyway. So dh said lets just look and learn and figure out what we can agree on what we like.

And the sick thing is some of the houses we are looking at are not foreclosures, they need some TLC but nothing like boarded up scariness that I expected for us to buy!

What do you do when you view a house? Bring a notebook, a camera? So lost.

We have been to 100 or more open houses in the past 2 years. Here is the simple process.

You walk in, we usually knock if its not busy. The agent will have you sign in ( its important to them, since they get the sale if you buy the house )

The agent will hand you a flyer with all the information, same as what you would see on the mls page.

Then the agent will either just do you a favor and say 'Look around, if you have any questions let me know' OR they can be super detailed.....that can be time consuming.... Its not like I dont know what granite counter tops look like lol or that im looking at a 2 car garage......

After that....the agent will either thank you for coming and tell you he or she will be keeping intouch or they will give you their life story lol and try to become your best friend.

No need for a camera or a notebook. Trust me you will know right away if you both like the house.
We have walked in then out in under 10 seconds before....and some we stayed to do a second tour.

Have fun! It is exciting and exhausting at the same time.

We had a notebook. We wrote down the address, the asking price, what we liked and didn't like about the house, what 'needed' to be done in the house and what we 'wanted' to be done. then at the end we would compare and see what we are getting for our bucks!

good luck!

We always just make notes on the sales sheet they give you

Good luck Jen. It is fun but as PP stated very exhausting too

most of the houses we looked at were not occupied anymore so we brought a camera and a video camera as well (that way if there was anything we really liked or made an offer on we would have pictures and video to show DH's family up here and also for ourselves since we can't just go back anytime to see it)....

one day we saw almost 20 houses so i kept notes on them - so many were nice and after awhile everything starts looking the same and getting confusing - so that made it easier to remember and then narrow it down - then the next day we went back to see the top 3 and picked 'the one' which we are still waiting to hear back on.....

good luck! it can't hurt to look around - DH and I love looking at houses - even the ugly ones we said that we would look every weekend if we could but we can't since the houses we want to see are down in florida
