expired registration is definitely a hint. i personally love how DH's dad had some plates that he 'bought' that were from Virginia--and he was gonna put them on his car and drive around that way. mind you the plates were brand new and didn't have ANY registration sticks or info on them showing they were registered anyway---those spots were blank.
