I cannot comprehend...

how, after seeing the devastation from Katrina, some people are actually deciding to stay on the peninsula in TX with Hurricane Ike coming!

572 ppl are in the 'surge area'!

It's a MANDATORY evac and they're warning now that staying may mean'certain death' and still ppl are staying. This is just scary!

PS- did anyone see Geraldo Rivera bite it hard on air?? that was funny. he was laughing.

same here. i mean the news has been reporting on this for what.. like a wk+? so i would have been OUT right then before everyone is annoyed last minute about being stuck on the highway.

Ummm, they just reported now that 'Persons not hedding evac orders in single fam or 2 fam homes will face certain death.'

Soothing....prediction of certain death.

Can you imagine riding it out with your fam in your home during something like that?!

i just saw video of ppl at a bar on the beach sippin drinks and acting like its a party!!! dumb.

I really feel like there are people there who do NOT have a means of leaving and for that I feel awful, there are those that will lose EVERYTHING! BUT if you have the means of getting out and feel its 'silly or pointless' to leave and you lose everything....I really feel like they have done it to themselves and I WONT feel bad. I just cant feel bad about the people who CHOOSE to stay over being put out by leaving....my life and what little I can get together is more important then being put out in my opinion

My DH is driving to TX as we speak (type lol) he is doing relief work but he wont be going where it is worst actually hes going to the opposite part of TX untill they know where the work is going to be but im still fraking a bit!

i think thats kind of why theyre reporting about imminent death. its kind of saying: if you stay, you are fine with dying!

its a horribly stupid decision, ESP after seeing katrina!!

im sure there is a way for just about everyone to get out also. they evacuated all the ppl with medical issues/elderly who wanted, that
needed help to do it.

nothing is more impt than saving yourself, even if you have to leave everything behind imo. eta: esp bc you may not even live to enjoy your things! whats the point.

I don't feel bad for them, it's their own fault if they don't get out.

some people just feel they have no means to leave or anywhere to go. even some won't leave because they have pets and evacuations don't include animals and many times because the shelters won't take you with your animals---people stay behind because of that too. its sad as hell!

now if you have a way to leave and nothing but posessions to leave behind and you stay--then you are an idiot and i have no pity for you whatsoever.

but im sorry... staying with the outcome of 'certain death'...just to stay with your pet? heck, i may get flamed for this, but THAT does not make sense to me at all! dude your pet AND you prob arent going to survive this. wheres the logic? i guess the SLIM chance of survival?? of course i dont envy anyone who would have to leave a family pet but honestly, they're telling ppl essentially: stay and die.

is there nothing in place to get animals out ahead of time??

thanks!! he is going to be up on the huge telephone poles re setting all the lines that get damaged in the storm....but as for the people who stay....yeahhhh i dont get it! id be out soooo fast!!!

oh i don't think it makes sense--but i was just kind of playing devil's advocate for some reasons people stay. even if they seem stupid--its their reasons. that happened a lot in Katrina--people stayed behind cause there were very few shelters that accepted animals. does it make sense? probably not. but i am a huge animal lover and i really don't know how i'd feel leaving behind my pet, so who knows how you feel until it happens to you.

and there are very few resources in evacuations that concern pets, to get them out ahead of time, simply because it is difficult enough to get people out--let alone all the animals.

that suks. i know it may not be feasible but it would be great if we had something in place for pets just to address maybe that small grp of ppl who would stay behind for them and risk death or actually die. then its like, ok you and your pet are now dead so that was for naught essentially. like i said i def don't envy ppl having to make that decision about pets. i am not a HUGE pet person but i like animals and don't know what it would be like to have to leave a fam pet behind, esp if someone was a huge pet lover. i do know, though, that it would be more impt to me to do what i could to survive for my family and loved ones... so i would evacuate for sure!! my arse wouldve been so gone. def not partying on 'the poop deck' lol that bar i mentioned. but anyways i get what you were saying.
