I did a very good thing this weekend and feel GREAT!

Quick background:

Dh and I haven't spoken to his sister since 9 months prior to our wedding. We've been married for almost 8 months. During this time she's had a baby which we have never seen. Well yesterday was the baby's Christening and on Saturday I discussed my going to the church and DH said to do whatever would make me happy.

I got their early sat in the back of the church and when SIL and MIL walked in I saw them and started getting really nervous. Anyway to make a long story short SIL saw me and came over with my beautiful niece and invited me to sit with the family.

Now a lot has happend that caused the rift between us. DH is very very very stubborn and I do believe will not speak to his sister ever again if not for many years to come. However I wouldn't mind having a 'relationship' with her. I would love to be in my nieces life.

I am so glad that I went it feels as though a huge weight has been lifted off of my chest.

GOod for you!!

It's so nice that you want to be a part of your nieces life. People sometimes tend to forget that even when they may have conflicts with other adults, they should try to remember the children in the middle of the turmoil and how they are innocent in all of it. I hope you will be able to have a wonderful relationship with her and hope that in the future you will all be able to mend the conflict so that YOUR children will be able to have a relationship with their aunt and cousins!

Kudos to you!!!

Totally agree. It takes a lot to be the bigger person sometimes but your children and hers will appreciate it. Even if you can only tolerate one another, the kids will be able to grow up with their family and thats really important.

aw, that was nice. Good for you. I'm glad it went well.

I haven't spoken to my sister but once in 11 months (since my wedding). I am tempted to mend the relationship but sometimes I can't be bothered. You are a bigger person than I.

Good for you for stepping up and breaking the ice. That is the step in the right direction and maybe down the line your DH will see what he is missing and come to.

This happened with my aunt and my dad years ago and it got worse in which my aunt was the instigator. my dad passed suddenly 4 years ago and ever since then my aunt regrets not making up and saying sorry for all the things she caused. She has been on a guilt trip since. I hope that doesn't happened between your DH and his sis. So it is good you started somewhere.

what a blessing- your willingness and SIL's reciprocation!! maybe this will be a small step towards family healing! so sweet you got to see your neice for the first time and you didn't miss her christening.

Good for you!!!

Sometimes in life...someone has to be the bigger person. Life is short and you never know what can happen tomorrow...

I got into a huge falling out with one of my best guy friends from college...huge! After about a year or so of being angry....I felt it was time for me to be the bigger person and just let him know that even though..we will never be friends again like the way we were that I still am happy for him...his new wife and his new little baby boy. Every now and then we e-mail to say hello and see how things are and I feel good about it because I know deep down that if something were to happen to him, I would be very upset still.

So again...good for you!
