I'm so glad to have crossed over 'to the other side' and to be joining this board. :) I'm very much looking forward to just being married now. :)
Quick question...how long does it take to actually get the marriage license from town hall? Also, did anyone go to Motor Vehicle to change your name on your drivers license? Is it a pain?
Thanks,
Linda

We got our license in about 3 weeks - definately under a month - got it in Huntington. I live in Massachusetts, so I can't give you any info on the drivers license.

We got our marriage license before we even got back from our honeymoon, so I'd say about 2 weeks. I haven't changed my driver's license yet because I'm STILL waiting to close on our house.
Welcome to the 'Other Side'!! : )

Marriage license took about three weeks. I did my drivers license in NYC at license express and that took fifteen minutes. I had to renew anyway, so I got the new one in about a month. I went to the social security office filled out the paperwork and got the new card in about two weeks. My passport only took a week and a half and cost $40. I had to send in a certified marriage license and they sent it back with the old passport and the new one. Pretty painless

Congrats on your wedding! I also did the license and got it in 2 weeks and got my new SS card in about 2 weeks also. Still need to do the passport but everything else is done. The license was at our house by the time we got back from the honeymoon so I guess it was about 2 weeks. I went in person to DMV and SS.

Your name change on your passport cost you $40? I sent my form, old passport, & license in last week, & the form specifically said there was no fee involved for a name change service. So after your post - I'm a little worried. Did you pay for expedited service?

I have the same form - there is no fee just to change your name on your passport. You don't even need a new picture. Basically they are just going to add an 'endorsement' to your passport and on a back page somewhere type in how your name has been changed. I think if you were renewing or getting a new one, or as you mentioned asking for expedited service, you might have to pay.

We got our marriage license in less than two weeks from Town of Hempstead. We live in Cali., and it was waiting for us (in a huge stack of other mail) when we arrived home from the honeymoon.\ Also, license renewal and SS card with new name were a breeze in Cali. You can visit the DMV site on the web, and make an appointment online - saves a lot of time! I don't know if NY has this option, but if so - use it!
