I didn't want to admit it but...

I didn't want to admit it but...

I have severe post wedding blues!

I didn't expect this. I was so sick of doing everything- especially since my DH really wasn't involved with the planning and my family lived OTT. I was such the non-bride. And now I am so depressed I can barely function. I am off in the summer since I am a dean of a high school but I can't wait to go back to work and not feel this way. This is so unexpected. I thought I would be thrilled the wedding was over. Instead all I think about is the what-ifs and I was really disappointed in my DH at the rehearsal dinner and can't let that go. Please let me know I am not nuts and need to be committed!

You are NOT nuts. There was even a book written about this, but it's geared for women who are IN the planning process, so that's why I didn't buy it when I went through this. It was written, I guess, as a proactive self help book to try to explain to women that there's a high likelihood of depression/let-down after the wedding.

Some of the thing that helped me were: getting the photos and working on songs for the video. Once that was done, I spent A LOT of time on thank your cards. I designed very unique cards and wrote out full letters to each guest.

After that, we started to do a LOT of entertaining, having people over for dinner (that will keep you PLENTY BUSY).

Then, the holidays came, so I was obsessed with gift shopping.

And, we started to do a lot of travel! That's ALWAYS exciting!

I was very depressed after our mini-honeymoon. I was very surprised at how sad I was - I had nothing to look forward to. It gets better tho for you!

No, you're not nuts. Or it you are, I am too! I was very depressed for about a week we came back from the honeymoon, and I think a bit on the honeymoon too. I may still have been if there wasn't so much going on in my family (lots of illnesses and all at once), and at work (a promotion I would love to get came up, and I think I'll go for it). These things are filling up my time, and I can't think about anything else very much.

Hope this passes soon for you. Maybe take up a project of some kind, something you wanted to do while all the planning was going on?

I'm right there with ya Christine. It is almost 3 months since the wedding and I am feeling blue. And it is not going away. If anything, it has gotten a little worse because I am done with my TYs, I've posted my Wedding Review on LIW, and now there is very little other wedding stuff to do. (I do have our album to do, I guess).

I just loved the wedding planning and having all of that anticipation. For the past 3 years, everything has been so exciting in my life - meeting and dating DH, wondering when he would propose, then the engagement and wedding planning. There was always so much to look forward to. So I think part of my post-wedding blahs is the fact that the excitement in my life has died down for the first time in 3 years. DH and I were living together before the wedding, so being married doesn't feel all that different. And he is going to be traveling a LOT more this year, so we are going to be apart more.

Hi Christine,

You're wedding was the day before mine and I know just how you feel. I think the only thing that is keeping me from a really depression is that our friends are all getting married too, we had a wedding 8/7 one tonight and one on 8/20. So, I still kinda feel in wedding mode.

School's just around the corner and then the holidays . I'm so glad they have a newlyweds board, I was all ready to give up on posting after the wedding !!!

Cheer up,

you're not nuts. you're still a newlywed so bask in that. you were a beautiful bride and i think once you get all your pictures and a little more time has passed it will all set in how good you looked, how great your day was, and how much you have to look forward to.

cheer up, we love you as mrs!

I went throught this too. I had heard of it before and was shocked when I felt this way. I couldn't wait for the wedding to be overwith. While I enjoyed the planning somewhat, I didn't live for it the way some brides do.

It will pass. Mine took a few weeks, and I have no advice on ending it. I do know that I enjoyed being able to read a non-wedding-related magazine or book. Maybe hit the bookstore and get something that captivates you.

I saw the bump! thank you so much- that really helped.
I am feeling better today. My DH came home from a trip and brought me flowers. This was after I bought myself the same bunch, at the same store today to cheer myself up! The whole house is now filled! It made me realize how much we are so in sync with eachother and how much I love being married.

Danielle- thank you so much! You are my 'nautical' twin in more ways than one. I am feeling that same way. For the past two years, everything has been so exciting, meeting my FH, getting engaged, having everyone get so excited that I was FINALLY getting married. And the living together part too- we keep saying that we don't FEEL married since nothing is changed. I wish we could afford a home so we could start that process but even with the downpayment we have in our condo, we can't touch any of the single families in my neighborhood. I think that is getting me down too.

You are NOT alone!!! My wedding was almost 3 months ago and Im still peeved about what didnt go as planned. Im blue because its all over. Everyone expects newlyweds to be happy and thrilled and I cant stop feeling miserable. There should be support groups for us!!!!!!!!!!!!
