I don't know how people can get addicted to pain meds ....

I feel like crap being on them all the time

i needed to laugh. thank you!

i totally feel you. the pain meds weren't even working or me so they gave me a stonger dose and this is finally helping w the pain a bit but i sure as heck don't feel 'good'

when is your surgery?

surgery is may 5th ... cinco de mayo

it can't come soon enough.

they do help take the edge off the pain, but it totally goes straight to my head, makes me feel light headed and queasy ... and knocks me out so all i want to do is sleep.

so then i stop taking them b/c i feel like crap. ==> then i whine to dh about being in pain ==> he gets upset b/c he doesn't understand why i won't take them if they help with the pain. ==> so i listen, and i take them, and i'm back to feeing like crap.

round and round and round in circles we go.

I had spine surgery about 3 years ago..l had little to no feeling in my legs (walked with a cane) and had EXCRUCIATING pain in my lower back...

I had bottles upon bottles of percoset, vicodin... you name it...

the ONLY thing I found that relieved SOME of the pain, was some heavy duty muscle relaxer.

To this day, if i took a few vicodin, they would do nothing for me... my tolerance is so high

(I'm fine now, thanks to the most amazing neuro surgeon in the world)

I'm sorry you're going through this... Have you tried different pain meds? For example, Darvacet (weak) made me really nauseous..

I remember you posting about your experience a while ago (probably one of the other hundreds of times i've whined to you guys )

Over the last 6 moths I've been on a few different things .... I definitely react better to vicoprofen than to vicodin. Ultracet did nothing for me .... except possibly tear a hole in my stomach. I'm gonna have to talk to my doctor about changing my meds, even if it is only for another week until the surgery.

I hope cinco de mayo is the start of a bueno año.

Seriously. My internist was a long time friend of the family... problem was, I dont like to make a fuss... one night i was in so much pain my mother ran across the street to her home screaming like Shirley Maclaine's character in Terms of the Endearment (GIVE MY DAUGHTER THE SHOOOOOOT!)

I don;t think the DR's realize what we're going through... NOBODY can... you know?

It;s awful... I wouldn't even wish it on my worst enemy.

I'm telling you though... the NURSES in the hospital, were my saving grace.

The doctors did so much, but the bed side manner of the nurses got me through that time...

Aww Jess I hope you feel better. I agree with caroline-speak up and dont be afraid to try different things especially if your insurance will cover it.

I was on diclophenac as an antiinflammatory and pain killer but it didn't work well. When i doubled up as they suggested I got REALLLY loopy. But now I am on meloxicam and its the same type of drug but all day as opposed to 2x a day and I felt awesome yesterday. No pain, or stiffness and NO loopiness. It doesnt seem to upset my stomach either like the diclophenac which is important because I have alot of stomah issues.

Vicodin I know always upset my belly. Maybe try a muscle relaxer. I have flexeril and that works well for me. Minor stomach irritation if any (taking it with meals cuts down on that) and when I take 1/2 I dont feel stoned like some of the others made me feel.



Feel better! Crossing my fingers and hoping the surgery goes well.

I hate them also I get soooo stupid on them !! I had to have 4 teeth pulled a couple of yrs ago and was on Vikadins(sp?) and was sooo stupid my 5 yr old at the time was hysterical asking daddy why is mommy acting so weird?

They make me sick too.....not alone there.

Not me! They gave me Vicodin after my C-Section and I was on cloud 9!!!!

Ah, yes, diclophenac .... another one that was on my list and did nothing for me, except tear a hole in my stomach

You girls know me so well .... I have probably not been as vocal with my doctors as I need to be.

Jess... I am sorry to hear you are still feeling yucky... I would call the dr and have them prescribe a different pain med.. the ones you are taking might not be the best to treat you... Feel Better Sweetie!!!!

Yeah, I hear you. I feel the same. My stomach is burning. But I can attest to the fact that I see a lot of people that manage to it very well!

The only upside is when you are in so much pain that you can't sleep, you can take one and you are done.
