I don't post too much anymore, but...

I don't post too much anymore, but...

I guess I am looking for some place in the universe to send out my sorrow. I just found out today that I am losing my job due to cuts in my school. I am an English teacher. I am still paying off my Bachelor's and I am currently in grad. school and paying out of pocket for it. I have to finish my Master's soon in order to keep my certification, but now I do not even know how DH and I will pay our bills. I know I should be positive, but I know there are practically no jobs out there. I know people in the same field who have been looking for years. There was one posting on OLAS, so of course, I applied, but it is so hard to be optimistic right now. I am so extremely devastated, and I just needed to vent. Thanks to anyone reading.

I can feel your pain...happened to me...2 months before I got married - I lost my job...imagine that- talk about putting a damper on your happiest day.... I was a resource room teacher thinking 'oh I dont have to worry about my job as long as my observations are good'...pfft! 2 1/2 years on & they cut me & split my job between 5 tenured spec ed teachers to save $$ in the budget. I am STILL w/out a job & more than likely going to leave the teaching profession b/c of the fact that it's causing too much stress on the marriage trying to hold out for a teaching position & support a home w/rising bills & increasing taxes. It $UCK$! My parents were devastated when I told them a few weeks ago that I would be leaving teaching to try & persue some other line of work, but Unemployment will only last so long, and I have to be realistic, w/the way NY state is continuing to make educational cuts - unless you're certified in a rare area, it will be near impossible to find something - & Im certified in elementary, special ed 1-6, AND literacy and STILL cannot find a job, much less even get called for an interview. Since June 30th of last year until 2 weeks ago I have applied for 387 teaching positions and have gone on 1 interview (w/ the exception of subbing interview). To me the numbers just say a very horrifying & sad story. I wish you a lot of luck & hope things work out for you, but wanted to let you know - you're not the only one.

I am so sorry. I was there before- laid off. It's not fun. All you can do is just breathe, take the time to focus on yourself and your Husband and try and find something else. I know it's difficult- believe me. I am not a teacher but can totally relate. Hang in there hun.
