Yeah..sounds like it! My wedding sounds a bit different...we definitely didn't make ours out to be some lavish affair but as a low-key and unique event.I just had to say that I used plastic and had a buffet...it can be done but only in certain situations!

Was this wedding at a hall, or a Knights of Columbus type of thing?? Paper and plastic is definately a No No! Do you guys usually give cash or checks as gifts? I usually give a check!

Re: I hate saying this, but I went to the worst wedding this weekend...
I've been to a few buffet and/or low budget weddings that were elegant, but they all surprisingly lacked enough food for all the people in attendance. I think when people choose buffet dinners, they don't expect guests to eat much and that's their biggest mistake, IMO.My in-laws threw my SIL's wedding in Atlanta, and it was an elegant buffet - everything was beautifully presented, tasted good, etc. But, they were hoping for a cocktail party-type mingling atmosphere and it flopped BIG time. Aside from the fact that they *refused* to serve cocktails (my in-laws don't drink, and therefore think that no one else on the planet should!), the room they chose was too big for the cocktail party type of atmosphere, and since people couldn't drink, they wanted to eat more and the food ran out
.However, I think tri-state area weddings (like all of our own) reach the other end of the spectrum and border on gluttony! We can all admit that we had FAR too much food at all of our weddings, now can't we?
People all over the world throw different kinds of parties to celebrate a new marriage. Just b/c the party isn't NY chic, doesn't mean the bride and her maids shouldn't look their best that day. I don't think the party itself is a reflection of how happy the couple is, or how blessed their union will be. Don't be so hard on people who are not as fortunate as us. I'm not flaming anyone here...just saying, let's be compassionate!
In her mind, I'm sure this poor bride had the party of a lifetime!

This is another story altogether. Let's just say it was a bit easier for me to post this because it's not exactly a blessed union, and they aren't exactly misfortunate.
Sorry Jenny...no pics.

Well, obviously I don't know the whole story about this particular couple...but, I'm just going by my own experiences with weddings that weren't exactly how we (meaning the collective 'we' on LIW) define a fabulous affair. I just think it's easy for us to forget that a large percentage of weddings that take place in our whole country do not have the big budgets that LI/NYC weddings have.

I went to a wedding like that. I don't care what your budget is. Do not invite 300 people to a one station buffet reception with no cocktail hour. Our situation the wedding started at 3 we didn't get anything to eat until after nine. There is no excuse.
The wedding was unorganized and then they had the nerve to have adult reception on the invite. The other day my husband commented they might as well had kids there.
Hot Mess!! is all I can say

Claud, I completely agree with you, and I have been to weddings outside NY...and they were fabulous, and nothing like a NY wedding. I just think there is a difference between cutting corners and making your guests downright uncomfortable. And, making it pretty obvious that you wedding was merely a fundraiser.Welcome New Vendors
