I have a job interview tonight!!

Its in Garden City at a law firm...wish me luck, i am super nervous, Interviews are not something we do every so often...any tips or advice...

I am currently working in a law firm in Huntington, I live in valley stream so the commute is killing me it takes me like 50 minutes, and 1 whole hour coming back home (because of rush hour traffic) etc.

I am happy with the $ i am making here, despite no health benefits. As far as my salary is considered, i will wait for the attny who will be interviewing me tonight to bring it up...but im thinking what if its much lower than what im making now?? should i tell him the money im making now..i dont mind making a few dollars less, because i will be new there and have to prove myself (considering i do get hired) but im not sure how to go about this situation.....!! any advice...

Where in Garden City?? I work in Mineola near the Supreme Court.

I haven't been on an interview in a long time, and the interview I had for this job was basically them just telling me I got the job, and I didn't have to worry a bout anything lol

I have read that you shouldn't bring up salary. IF they happen to bring it up, then you can talk about it. My friend works in TN and she just got a new job working with some attorneys and she went in there and told them that she was currently making $10,000 more a year than she really was, and they gave her the salary she wanted.

Maybe you can lie? lol

well i didnt plan on bringing it up. i was assuming the person doing the interview would bring it up....otherwise i mean im not going to take a job without finding out how much im making...esp leave the job i have now!!..so i guess if he tells me an amount lower, i can be like well right now im making XYZ... and go from there on?

Re: I have a job interview tonight!!

9 times out of 10 they will not bring up salary in the first interview- UNLESS they are really interested in you.

In interviews, I have often padded my salary- by no more than 10-15%- most companies will not offer you less than you are making unless they think that you are lying- even then they will at least match or be honest that they can not go that high

dont be afraid to negotiate your salary- but factor in all benefits- healthcare, 401k matching and vacation- for example- if I get 5 weeks of vacation at my current company, I would try and negotiate that in.

you can go online and get a bunch of typical interview questions and write out answers- the most important one is having an answer to the always asked 'tell me about yourself'

good luck!

I know that is tricky, so I can't really say. But from what I do know, you shouldn't discuss salary unless he brings it up. Hopefully someone else will post on this and tell you what to do.
Good Luck!

I would wait until you get the job. With my experience the salary wasn't discussed until I got hired. Then we talked about negotiating it. If you dont like the salary then you can always decline the position and stay where you are.

I hate when they don't post the salary on the listing, it will make it so much easier to decide if the interview is worth going.

Good Luck!

Good luck tonight!!!!

I hate interviews too, I'm always nervous about the weird things they might ask. lol. Just make sure to smile a lot and make good eye contact. That's always a biggie

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

See how the interview goes....sometime $ comes up.....if it seems like things are going well....try to ask about the 'pay range' and take it from there.
